This has NOTHING to do with you being a bridezilla. This has to do with how your friend is behaving like a child and not being concerned for your feelings. It may not be to specifically hurt you, but what she's saying is thoughtless. I'm sorry you have to deal with this. Maybe the best option at this point is to ask her not to discuss her with you, but in a way that makes it not about her. Something like, 'I am so happy that were both getting married next year, but. I'm so super stressed out, and I've decided to take a little time for myself to not discuss ANY wedding stuff at all. I know you're just as excited as I am, but I'd really appreciate if you'd respect that and not talk to me about wedding stuff for a little bit.' Maybe then, after she books her place and starts looking for other vendors, you'll be ready to discuss things with her again. I don't blame you for not wanting to hear it from her.

Yikes. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I agree with sgf2 and suggest not talking about wedding stuff for a bit. If you're looking to repair the friendship, you can say somthing like 'oh well I feel like this is all we talk about lately and I want to catch up on other things' or you can put it all out there and comment about how you feel like it's creating a divide between you two and for the sake of the friendship you think it's best to focus on other things. You're DEFINITELY not being a bridezilla. A bridezilla would have told that girl where to go a long time ago! You have more patience than I do! Good luck!

Ugh! I am sorry you are dealing with this. It AMAZES me how once you are getting married how people and relationships change. It was highly insensitive of her to say things like that and it definitely sounds like she is playing the one up game which is PATHETIC!! How can you truly be one up-ing someone who is marrying the man of their dreams?! She will NEVER WIN! That is how I look at it. If she is going to be petty about things for the sake of her 'feeling better' than I def agree with the other ladies and pull away.

Re: Part of me wants to cry... long.. sorry.
I hate to say this but I think your friendship is coming to a breaking point. She is probably going to get worse as your weddings approach and she will probably compare the two insensately. That's wonderful that she has been with her FH for 4 years and that they have a daughter together but I think she feels like the underdog because there's nothing new going on for her other than she's probably spending 20K that she doesn't really have. Where as you are new news, you have kids and life ahead of you and she probably just knows that you are going to be the highlight of life at your wedding. And I don't mean to be rude by saying that but it's definitely jealously that this is stemming from and you shouldn't let it bother you because from my experience with women, her attitude will probably get worse. Please don't feel bad! I would keep a strong distance and not discuss any wedding details with one another and just play it out. Maybe after her wedding she will relax but I'm not too sure!

The thing that first caught my eye in this post was when you explained that you asked your 'friend' to not look at your venue.Am I just overextending, or would anybody else not even consider booking the same venue as their friend? Not even so much out of respect for her, but because I would want my own special place! The fact that you had to request for her not to look there is a red flag.
I agree with some of the other girls and suggest not asking about her wedding or talking about wedding stuff. Your wedding and planning it is such a happy and fun time and you should only share it with the people who can be happy for you! Like us, for example

Thank you! I know... it was ridiculous to ask but I knew if I hadn't... it would've been a contender for her... even AFTER knowing I booked it!
I have a friend who is getting married at Thatched Cottage this year and while TC was on my list... it was like... WAYYYY down on my list. Not because I didn't like it or anything because its GORGEOUS there... but because she is getting married there this october and then one of FH's friend (who actually got engaged the same night as we did!) booked there for june of 2014. I wanted my own special place and I got it. No one that I know (aside from my friends sister who I'm not close with) has ever even HEARD of the Mansion at West Sayville!
I'm so glad that you ladies understand where I'm coming from!

This girl is out to hurt you and upset you. She needs serious help. She should spend all the effort she is putting into hurting your feelings into her own wedding. You don't need someone like this around. Do not tell her any details (in fact I'd make up some fake details just to see if she copies you for $hits and giggles
)feel better though and remember she's not worth your time.

Keep your head up and don't let anything damper this exciting time in your life. Let her drama go. She's gonna do what she's gonna do... don't let it get to you. Just enjoy this special time in your life... you only get it once =)

I'm really sorry you're going through this. Snide comments like that get under my skin really fast so I'm sure you're really upset. You said that she is always trying to one-up people and if that is the case then this person (I don't want to use the term friend!) is very insecure and is obviously using an indirect way of putting you down to get some kind of satisfaction for herself. That is sick, and she needs serious help! I know its easier said than done but I would just ignore her, she is probably getting some kind of satisfaction knowing that she is getting under your skin.
And let me also say this:
My sister got married at Timber Point two years ago and I'm assuming that the Mansion at West Sayville has the same kind of menu (Smithtown Landing did and they're all Lessings). There was MORE than enough food at her cocktail hour and the food was fantastic. You can't go wrong with a lessings venue. It's all about quality!
Your wedding will be spectacular no matter what, especially if she's worrying about what you're doing for your big day instead of HER OWN wedding. Weddings really bring out the true colors in people and maybe you'll be lucky enough to get rid of a fake friend along the way, it doesn't sound like she's a very good one anyway!

EXACTLY!! I'm like... Uhhhmmm... I know what I'm getting at the Mansion... so what is her sister getting. No.. I'm not getting 8 chafing dishes and 20 different passed hor d'ourves... But I'm also only having 150 people TOPS and I want them to EAT the dinner because as you said... Lessings food is AMAZING. There will be plenty of food at my wedding and I know that. I feel like she purposely made the statement to annoy me.

Don't even stress. People are so petty when it comes to competition. Just stay focused on you and FH and YOUR wedding. Screw her and her pathetic attempts to bring you down. Your wedding is going to be phenomenal regardless!!

I'm so sorry that you're going through this! I agree with everyone, she seems to be acting out of pure jealousy. As much as this is easier said then done, try not to let her bring you down. Focus on your wedding and enjoy it!
