Participation in Group Gift for Boss?

Today, I received a soliciting voice message that went out to my whole district (11 people) saying that were were going to get my manager a nice wine rack as a district. Please, can everyone give 20 dollars at the meeting on Wednesday.

Well, I was kind of annoyed because I am so new to the company, I had gotten my manager a nice card, and to my knowledge my manager had not gotten anything for me. My DH and I are really saving up this season because next year we have so many weddings and affairs. I did not even get people who were close to me gifts. I did not count on giving 20 bucks more and am just annoyed about being put on the spot and forced to.

Does anyone else get slightly annoyed by the group gift theory?

it kinda annoys me.. i mean its a nice gesture and all but its still annoying.

i was out sick all last week and they apparently got 5 bucks from each person in our dept to get our manager a simon mall gift card. i was told today that i owe someone 5 bucks. i'm like okay? thanks for asking. it's only 5 bucks, but still.
