Re: Passport
I had mine (when I first got it) rushed and it took about two weeks for me to get it back.
The good news is ladies if you change your name within a year of getting your passport they'll amend it for free once you're married.
If you wait past the year they'll charge you another $75.00 for a new passport.

Re: Passport
Good to know - I will have to rush to get it done so I don't miss the one year mark

Re: Passport
Well it's one year from the date it was issued... so the later it's issued the better.
When you get your marriage license you can fill out a 'Passport amendment form' and that form, your original marriage license, and your passport get sent back to the processing center... think it's in South Carolina somewhere

Re: Passport
Do you just got to the post office? What do you have to do to renew one that expired 4 years ago?

Re: Passport
You can go to the post office for some of the forms or you can visit the website below- they also have a 1-800 number for any questions about fees and such.
If say my passport was issued on March 2006 and I got married in March 2008 I would have to pay to have the name changed on it. If I had gotten my passport on January 2008 and got married in March 2008 then I wouldn't have to pay since it was under the one year that I have had my passport. But you have to travel under your maiden name until you change it in your passport. You can't change the passport until you get your marriage certificate after you get married.
My FH applied for passport in February - had passport within 4 weeks with non-expedited service.

Re: Passport
I recently renewed mine (in March) and I had in within 2 weeks with no rush. I just printed the form online, had my passport picture taken at CVS and mailed it myself. It was a very smooth transaction. I seriously had it within 2 weeks - I was shocked.

Re: Passport
I got my passport in the beginning of last year, i think it came in 10 weeks. I was cutting it very close, i think i got it 2 weeks before my trip, thank god. But if you want to rush it you just have to pay more.
I also didn't know about this changing name thing, that is good to know! Even though i will have to pay for it :(

That is fast wow, i just wouldn't cut it that close though.
It also depends on the time of year i guess. When I was applying for my passport, they had just announced that even while flying international you would need one, so i guess i kind of sent mine in at a bad time. They still say expect it to take 8-10 weeks.
Just give yourself PLENTY of time to get it, especially if you are going on your HM, dont wait on it.

Yes it's been two years since I got my passport so I'll have to pay for it. DH isn't liking the fact that I have to send in our original marriage license.
