Passport help

I am getting married November 12 but we are going on our HM in January. When we booked, I was told I need to renew my passport bc it's expiring within the year. Our travel agent said I should buy the plane tickets under my new married name and I would have enough time to get my new passport with my new name. I keep thinking about this and getting worried I won't be able to do it so fast. What do you think? Is it possible to get married Nov 12, and then change my name and get a new passport before the second week of January????

Re: Passport help

it's supposed to only take about 2 months to get a new passport BUT my FH applied for his in February and he's still waiting ... he's spoken to the passport people at least 10 diff times and they keep saying it's in the mail but it never gets here

he's currently working with the manager because this has gotten so ridiculous ... hopefully he'll finally have a passport in the next week or two.

anyway, i hope this didn't scare you too much ... i would probably renew now with your current name and then re-renew after your HM with your new name ...

or (i'm not sure if you're comfortable with this) maybe you could just get married by a JOP, change your name now, and get the new passport with your new name now?

(sorry so long lol)

Re: Passport help

FYI

Was at post office last week - apparently rates just went up and they were overwhelmed w/ people the day before the rate change took effect. I commented because I got mine back so quickly, but they said it wasn't like that now because of the amount of people who renewed/applied before the rate change.

Re: Passport help

You should renew your passport know with your maiden name & I think you just have to mail in to change your name.

Look at it like this.
You get married in November.
Receive you marriage license 2 weeks later, go to SS & DMV (both require original marriage license). Another 2 weeks to receive your new license. So thats December, & then go to Post Office for new passport.

I don't think their is enough time.

Thanks ladies. I think you're right. I didn't feel right about it when the travel agent gave me that advice. I had to make a fast decision so I agreed to use my married name. Another question: Will I be able to board the plane under my maiden name if the ticket was bought under my married name?
