passport HELP! UPDATE: he was JK!!!!!

I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!!

Well, he was just kidding and he wanted to see me in person to see how mad i got and to see if I would say 'I told you so'

Well, I took the opposite approach. I was so sleepy so I couldn't wait up for him to come home - instead, I called him up and told him that I called the travel agent and she told me about hte emergency passport office that you girls actually told me about. And then I VERY calmly explained that we could push the HM back to March so we could be sure he would have it and everything would be okay and it wasn't his fault.

HA HA he was like OK well I wanted to wait to see you in person but i was JUST KIDDING - wasns't that funny? SO i said Um good night. . . .and I think I am going to punch him in the face when I see him.

Okay so sorry if I freaked anyone out and THANK YOU to everyone that took the time to help me.

PS - the man said he should get it by September!

I have been BUGGING FH to get his passport since we got engaged. . . - we have fought about it over twenty times. . . i mean walking out of the house, screaming, ugly cry fights because he is lazy and hasnt gone

he goes today and he calls me and says that the guy told HIM that he MAY or MAY NOT get it by JANUARY.

and that it costs $500 to expedite it so he thought it was too expensive

now, before i totally freak out on him. I thought ' if this was true there is no way he would tell me AND he would have just paid and never told me a thing'

but i called him back THREE times already - the last time almost in tears and he SWEARS it is true.

What do you girls think?

What i would do is drag him to get his passport photo taken and then drag him into the post office. You can get it done for $120 and you'll get it within 2-3 weeks

But if you want to save some money i believe is $67 ... the problem with that ..it will take about 10-12 weeks..

So i would just fork out the money for him to get his passport done.. so he can't complain... =)

Tilde don't worry he will definitely get it in time!!!

Like Denise said you could always go to the city and get it in the same day.
We did that in 2005 2 days before we left for Italy because my mother couldn't find her passport. We actually went to the place in Norwalk CT. We didn't even have an appointment because we didn't know we had to make one. What they did was form two lines...one for those with an appt. and one for those with out one. We got the passport in 3 hrs.!!! I believe it was like $150.

Don't stress he'll get it!!!!

i have been telling him to go since we got engaged in 2005 to go

i seriously don't even want to talk to him now. . . .i am so disgusted

I would be pissed too. I have a similiar situatiion with FH, and everytime i tell him its like talking to a brick wall

I wouldnt worry, They told me 3 months for mine and i got it in a month or so....I know they are behind cuz of the new laws going into effect. Youll have it :)

My friend just went throught he same thing....the new restrictions/rules on passports makes things really complicated. She's leaving for China in August....having her wedding here July 12th and then in China a few weeks later (cool right?!?!)....so she went for her passport a long time ago..still nothing. She took off from work last week and went to the headquarters where people were SO rude to her and she wasted her time because they said, 'When it's ready it's ready, NEXT!' OMGGGGGGGGG I felt so sorry for her....anyhow, tell FH this story and hopefully it will light the match under his tush! lol If you go now you should be fine...summer months are really busy for them....get on top of him and you should be fine..hope that helps.

They say 6 months., but thats not the case., they give you a window to expect it. FH went today to do it., they said he should have it in 2 months ????????

Lets say its a week before your honeymoon and he doesnt get the passport...he can go to the agency to get his passport that day if he has the ticket with him so no worries.

thanks for the honesty - i keep deluding myself that he is going to say JUST kidding!! lol

he went this morning and got it - but he said the guy still said there was a chance that he STILL wouldnt get it in time - thats the problemo

at least he went today after a year and a half of BEGGING. . . geez i printed out the application - filled it out - and made a checklist for him on how to get it. . you would think he could have gotten it sooner - he took the pic about three blocks from his job on the SAME block as the post office. . . geez.

She applied for it a while back....she just never got it. They sent her to the highest place she could go for help and they were idiots.....she sweat it out and just got it....just three weeks before her wedding!

i dont think that is true though - most girls on here say it takes about 8 weeks and i dont remember it taking that long last year when my parents needed theirs for turks and caicos

yeah my parents had to renew theirs when we went to italy in october and it took less than two months!

i called him back like three times and he SWEARS the guy at the PO told him that he will either get it right before or he may not get it at all

now, he is mean - so he could still be lying to me. . . i am going to bug him more about it tonight in person bc if he is doing this to be mean he will laugh if i ask him face to face

i dont think she did it for the right place bc you don't apply, the appointments are done by phone only, and you can only do it starting 2 weeks from when you leave. If you do just show up then yeah you can get lucky and still get it that day but with how hectic it is now i heard you cant just go in anymore...ALl this s**** now, im just glad i have mine

My FH just went thru this!! Literally just went thru this in March!! I can tell you exactly what happened. Denise is right - you have to call up 14 days before your trip and you make an appointment at the passport agency on Houston Street in Manhattan. It's an automated telephone line and you enter all your info and they give you an appointment. I'm not going to lie to you - you're going to be there all day long waiting but you WILL get your passport handed to you physically at the end of the day. I swear to you, my FH just did this and everything worked out perfectly fine. He had to bring proof of travel within two weeks, and they accepted our online travel itinerary for that. He also had to bring two passport size photos, which you can get at any Walgreens or CVS that has a photo center. Finally, he had to bring two forms of government issued photo ID (his driver license and his old passport). And there is NO WAY it cost $500. Including the expedited fee it was less than $200 (I can't remember the exact amount).

Don't worry!! Everything will be fine!!

Also, I just saw on the news this morning that the new requirements for passports to enter the US from Mexico and the Caribbean are being postponed. So, if you're going in either of those areas, I'd call and see if he even needs a passport to get back into the US. I took my sister with me to Aruba last year and she did NOT need a passport to enter Aruba or re-enter the US!

oh yeah i got there in the morning, well around 10-11am and got out around 3:30-4...luckily my moms friend had to go the same day so i had someone to keep me company and went and ate lunch and just hung around...can be a bit annoying but what can you do, its good when you REALLY need it.

Yeah I had to do it for my passport in 2000 and then this year FH and I were booked to go to St. Martin on 3/30 and realized on 3/20 that his passport was expired!!! So he made the emergency appointment and everything was fine!

the man at our postoffice for the pastports IS MEAN... so maybe he told ant that to get him off his back...

my dad and i waited in line for 30 min (pasports close at 4 or something) by the time we got to the front of the line it was liek 5 after adn they were liek NO... and we were liek excuse me we have been ON LINE FOR 30 min!?

and the guy was liek NO im late i have to go home...
and im like really bc i have to leave the coundry in 4 months...

eventually we got in the office and he gave us all this bull crappo.. but exp. and everythign it was liek 75 or 100$? and in a month i had it.
