Passport/ Name Change Question

I am changing my name after the wedding
I am getting a new passport before the wedding


The new passport will have to be issued in my maiden name.

What do I do after the fact when I want to travel? My ID will be changed to my married name but my newly issued passport will have my married name


I'm confused.

I dont know. Im sure theres a rep you can contact. I bet you this thing happens all the time with women getting married.

Worst case, bring the marriage cert with you

Apply for the passport now in your maiden name. Once you are married, you can change the name on your passport for FREE as long as it is within ONE YEAR of the issue date. If it's longer than one year, you'll have to pay the passport fee all over again.

There's a form to use to change the name on the department of state's website, but you can probably also pick it up at the post office.

No problem - my dad works for the State Department and I was on the phone with him when I saw your post.

Just be sure to send in the name change within one year because otherwise they'll charge you the full fee again.

what geegee said- make HM reservations and stuff inyour maiden name and worry about changing everything when you get back. There is no charge if you change it within one year of it being issued. I think you can even do it by mail.
