It's been so long since I got my passport, but FH needs one for our honeymoon....

Does anyone know how long it takes to get it and how much they cost these days????????

Brand new one (never had one before or got the last one when you were 15 or younger) it costs $97 and takes about 6-8 weeks. If you pay the rush fee it can take about 2 weeks but that fee is kind of high.

WHAT $97.00 for a PASSPORT

I think when i got my it was in the range of $50-$75.00

I mean thats not a bif jump from 75-97, but come on......He'll prob use this thing once!!!!!!

Oh man, Ill be going to fla on my honeymoon now for sure......so he doesnt have to get a passport

LOL yeah they changed the fee say 2 years ago and when I went in, they had just raised it from $85 a few DAYS earlier. I was so angry!

Yeah... that's how much I paid. I think it was $97. Got it b/c they changed the rules... you need a passport to go to any of the islands now and b4 you didn't. I think it took about 6 weeks to get back my passport and they also take your birth certificate so you get that back with the passport.

holy crap!!!!! I dont want to sound cheap or anything, bc im far from it, but thats nuts!!!!!

I know FH is gonna be pissed. Hes not big into travel except fla or somthing and now i know hes gonna suggest that again for HM!!! Not that its a bad place for HM, but i really wanted to go to a romantic place somewhere nice.....

polease pray for me that he wont have a fit!!

I just think its a waste for one time use, ya know??? he'll never use it again!!!

You never know b/c now they've gotten really strict with passports and who knows where you're gonna want to go in the future. I just got mine a year in a half ago for a cruise to islands b/c we thought you needed it then found out they're making it mandatory this year. We have the passports, but they were never stamped... At least we have it now. Going to aruba next month we'll need it or even Puerto Rico.

That just really stinks. I feel bad, bc i know he'll never use again unless you need it to go to fla or vegas in the future!!!

just to add to that you can also go to one of their centers and get it in 2 days. I had to do this a few years ago in order when I went to study abroad.

Amanda you never know you may use it again like for your one year anniversary going away.

I feel personally that it is very important to have a passport.

Tell him to suck it up and go get one

I think when we got ours it took about 6 - 8 weeks to receive it

Totally agree... you never know, but maybe you'll want to go to the Bahamas, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, etc... and you're going to need a passport. Plus, it's good for a very long time. Also, it's a good form of ID when traveling.

It takes FOREVER! Go ASAP! Youll have to take the pix first, and then get the passport done... Dan got his a few years ago when we went to italy and I remember getting it VERY CLOSE to our departure date!!! I wouldnt go any later than 2 months in advance!

Re: passport question

Unfortunately as Americans we have been alittle bit spoiled about not needing passports to get into most of the Carribean countries and Mexico...most other people in the world need visas to visit other countries! Explain this to your FH and tell him what a small price it is to pay to visit all the gorgeous ROMANTIC places in the world!

Yup I did that too, i got my passport the same day...years ago you were able to go in without an appt the same day and get it. Now you have to call about 2 weeks ahead of time, or if you already have a ticket and you put in the date you are leaving and they will make you an appointment and you can go get it the same day.

I think it's less if you supply the pic - they charge you $15 to take the pic there (at the post office)

It's not less than $97 if you supply the picture. I paid that price and had my own pics.

I think FH may be able to do this with the place we may book our honeymoon through. I hope he just gets the thing. He's such a procrastinator.
