Re: passport question
I just went this morning for mine. It's $67 for the State Fee, and $30 for the post office. They said it takes 4-6 weeks.

I agree with having a passport. You can get so many amazing travel deals last minute and you wouldn't be able to go without your passport. Plus it will be good for 10 years...
ALSO- a lot of the carribean islands and Mexico are doing deals now where they will reimburse your passport fee if you go to their island.
I also heard that the passport rule is not in effect for cruises yet....only air travel. But I am not sure about that one. So if he really doesn't want to get a passport maye you can do a cruise.

Re: passport question
TRUST ME-you should always have a passport, you never know. This wont apply to alot of you but still just to show you what can happen.
My grandfather passed away about 2 months ago, but he lived overseas. He died on a friday and the funeral was that weekend. Well my uncle's passport was expired and he was not able to get it in time...if it was during the week it mightve been different. So he had to miss his own fathers funeral...You never know when you will need it and you can't wait until you are able to get a new one

Re: passport question
I did mine here in Korea at the US embassy, it took 2 weeks! The only thing is I have to go pick it up at the other base here:(
My FH got his in less than 3 weeks, he did his in October, he also got a Visa to come stay with me for 30 days.
Well worth the money when you haven't seen eachother in 7 months!!!

Re: passport question
He still will need one. I think effective this month a passport is required to travel through the US as well. If it isn't this month, I know it goes into effect this year.

Re: passport question
Yea...I think they are changing the policy so that it will be required for air travel. Its better to get it now while its $97 than wait until he REALLY needs it and it goes up even more in price.

Re: passport question
Go to your local CVS or Walgreen drugstore and have your pictures taken there. They are under 10.00. After that you can download the application online. You will need a your birth ceritificate, a valid picture ID and the 2 photo pictures. You can go to your local post office and have it done. If you pay by check, they give you a discount.
It takes a couple of months to get everything back.
I just got one for my daughter and FH and I are going to get ours done next month.

Re: passport question
apply soon, since there's now a flood of applications and it likely will take longer....
If you have an expired passport, it may speed along your application a bit... and yeah, I agree with Espo22, if you have relatives overseas you always have to keep it current.... I've had a current passport for the last 33 years
