Passports - $ for name change?

I thought I had read that if you change the name on your passport w/in one year of your name change, you don't have to pay the fee...I just went to the website and I see nothing to indicate this..Either I'm going crazy or maybe you ladies can help me...

TIA!!!

i remember a thread like that too.

if you change your name within the year of getting your new pasport, it's free.

i'll see if i can dig it up

Thanks...I got the bright idea to search myself and I found it...duh

for anyone else who might be interested, its a different from (DS-5504 instead of DS-82) and it is free

http://travel.state.gov/passport/fri/ChangeName/ChangeName_851.html

its free within 1 year of passport issuance
67 bucks thereafter

Yes, there is no fee to re-issue the passport if you applied for one within the last year. You will need to fill out form DS-5504. Here is the website with the information. It is not a renewal but a re-issue for passports issued within the last year. I'm not sure if you have to pay if you've had your passport longer than a year. HTH
