Re: Passports - how do we get them?

We didn't get them. We are going to St. Thomas, and we are just bring our birth certificates (the originals)and our licenses. That's all you will need, my friend did the same thing, there is no need to get one, unless you want one.

I'd be very careful about doing that. With all the added security these days it's advisable to get your Passport. It's really easy and it comes in no time. Also, you don't need you SS card to get you passport.

Re: Passports - how do we get them?

get the forms at the post office. You get all the other docs like your b-certificate and two pics and send it in. You can request a rush for an additional fee. Should take 3 days.

Be careful--my DH brought just his birth cert. and license to Jamaica and they almost didn't let him through immigration to get back into the US. The agent gave him a really hard time and we waited for 1/2 hour, then the agent started screaming that if you have the money to travel you should have the money to invest in a passport. They had him answer a bunch of questions about the address of his high school, etc. A HUGE hassel...

Re: Passports - how do we get them?

I would defintiely get a passport. it's important to ahve anywya, just in case. it's good for 10 years. I don't know if it's changed but when i got mine (6 years ago), you could only get ti at certian post offices on certain days between certain times...like I had to go to the forest hills post office ona tuesday between 11 and 1 or something ridiculous like that..and go someplace that specializes in passport pics and will MEASURE them...I used to take apssport pics and if you're just a little off, they can be rejected, but the really reputable places will have a thing to measure the pic with to see if it's the right size. You also need your brith certificate, and I think a money order..it was $60 when i got mine
