Past/present experience with hip pain

Has anyone experienced hip pain at night?? It's not a cramp, it's an actual pain like I have worked out too hard or fallen and am sore.

If I'm sleeping on my right side, my hip will hurt so much that I need to roll over, and after a while the left side will start, and I have to roll over again. I don't know if this is a pg thing, or if I'm just sleeping 'wrong'.

Any insight??

I think it's a preggo thing.
I had the SAME pain while pregnant...unfortunately, nothing I did made it go away! Hopefully someone else can offer some suggestions! I hope your pain goes away!

Oh, my friend...it's pg-related!! OMG, I have such numbness sometimes I wanna cry!! I have to roll over to my other side and rub it for a few minutes for relief.

We all know 'the pain is worth it' , but it really sukks!!!

OMG Jenn I totally have that!!!!!! It wakes me up and then I have to flip my whole snoogle, then I wake up a couple hours later with the same pain on the opposite hip Sometimes when I am walking it starts to hurt too! I'm glad I'm not alone

is it from sleeping on one side and having too much pressure on your hips. Do you sleep with pillows between your knees? It could be your hips softening which I imagine would make the pain less but who knows. Just some ideas.

I just have to say that my hip pain has consistently gotten worse as I've gotten bigger, and it spread to my shoulders too It's definitely from extra weight and sleeping on my sides, even with a snoogle or a pillow b/t my knees. This is one thing I won't miss!

You have no idea how relieved I am to know I'm not alone. I'm sorry that you are all suffering too, but as they say, misery loves company! Patrick thinks it's all in my head. I'm printing this thread out and making him read it.

Sounds to me like exactly what everyone has mentioned about the weight. I had....5? 6? extra pillows in the bed when I was pg. One between the knees, one under the belly as it got bigger, one in the small of my back, 2 under my feet to keep the ankles elevated...I really think there were more too. DH was so thrilled after Luke was born b/c the pillows were pushing him out of the bed.

Get at least 2 extra pillows to use for now, it should help. Feel better!

Definitely PG-related! Poor thing....I know it ****s, b/c I had it too. And Michele is going throught the same thing right now (although hers is nerve related and might not be exactly what you are experiencing).

Hang in there...try the Snoogle or just some other pillows to help support your body as you are sleeping. I hope you can get more comfortable.

Oh Jen, join the unfortunate club!! I thought I was getting arthritis at first!!! Then I realized it wasn't that (hey, I'm too young for that ). And when I sleep at my MIL's house, it's even worse because that bed is like a rock. I've been sleeping with a pillow between my legs and my sister gave me this pregnancy pillow (it looks like a big wedge of cheese) that goes by your belly and then another pillow under my feet.

It's a pain sleeping w/all these pillows when you have to get up and pee several times a night and when you want to turn over because the pain/ache is getting to you!! We can never win, can we????

I'm sorry sweety!!! But at least you aren't alone!!

Jenn- that is how all of this other pain started for me. It totally $ucks. the pillows in between your knees help but nothing really, really helps.

YEAH---I'm not alone! I'm sorry that you have all gone through it or are going through it, but I'm so glad that I am not alone. My hip hurts sometimes when I walk too---especially at the end of the day. Its like a burning feeling!!!AHH!! The doctor said that it is because the hips are starting to widen out to make room for the baby.

Rubbing it and warm showers have helped a little, especially before going to bed--- now getting up in the morning, that is another thread all by itself!


It is all for good reason, right???

Trust me. My hips don't need to widen anymore than they were before I was pregant.

Hate to break it to ya, Deb...but arthritis does not discriminate based upon your age. I am only 30 and I have arthritis in my spine (I learned this when I was just a few weeks post-partum). I had to go for an MRI due to the severe pain I was having in my back/leg/hip - all very similar and very related to this pain that everyone else is now experiencing.

And, my little brother who is only 25, suffers from terrible arthritis in his feet. So, you don't have to be 'old' to have it...that's a wives tale or something.

My uncle had to stop playing basketball for St.John's when he was only 19 due to arthritis. Claud is right- you are never too young for it.

Oh Claud, I'm so sorry!!! I know you're never too young to get it -- my mother suffers with osteo-arthritis in her fingers for years, and they are so disformed now, I just hope I don't get that kind -- my hands are screwed up enough already with the carpal tunnel!!!
