Patken Photography

FH and I had an appt with Patken yesterday. We got quoted 2900 for bride/groom magazine style album with 30 pics, 2 parents albums with 12 images in each, and some extra different sized pics. No video.

I am confused though bc the other photographers we met with gave us a price for like 60+ images in the album but Patken said start low and then add them later for $22 a picture because its cheaper this way.

That makes me nervous bc no one else did it this way..can anyone make sense of this for me?? is it really cheaper to do it that way? Great quote but once we start making the album bigger then price goes up a lot! Help please!!

yup. i think im only getting 24 images in an album, no parent album, as im making them myself through a site like snapfish. id rather pay 22$ per image, than be stuck with 60+ images and pay a fortune.

better to add than to be stuck with 60 images. what if there arent 60 that u MUST have in ur album? there prob will be.. but i like paying per photo, and making my own album for 50$ instead of a few hundred $$ that the photogs charge.

were doing it that way too since we booked with patken..i feel like it actually works out to be more reasonable..

thats exactly what im trying to figure out....if its more reasonable or comparable to the higher rates we received with more pics included!! ahhh decisions decisions!!

are you doing just one photographer or paying extra for the 2nd?

Patken confused my with that as well. when we met withthem it seemed like the lady was pulling numbers from out of the sky. Most albums do contain 50+ images from what I have seen meeting with different photograhpers. With that said Patken offered a lot for a little but their video was not up to par for me so I declined even though they were so cheap.

we are having over 200 but i think one should be fine...they said they always use only one and it works out fine

i feel like we are getting a little for a little and once we start adding the price is about the same as other places we have looked.....we arent doing video, but i do love the style of their pictures!! they are so different!

Well if they are one of the vendors your hall suggests then they suppose to give you even more of a discount. But you have to decide if you want quality or quantity. If patken offers a style that you like and you haven't see anyone else style that you are more attracted to then go with them because they really aren't that bad with cost. Tell them your issues with the cost going up when u add more pics and maybe they will work with you on price. It seemed like the lady was willing to work with me when I looked like I was walking out of the door. However they just wasn't my style so it didn't work. But I definitely think she was willing to come down on our already cheap price.

this is the one thing that confused the crap out of me. fh understood with no problem.

we loved the work they do.
that is why we booked.

if it was up to me i would have started with low image as well but fh wanted 50min. i also was pro no parent album but again fh wanted one for his mother. i am using shutterfly for my mom and bp.

we got a pretty good price but we are doing video as well.

Re: Patken Photography

how are you doing your albums on snapfish/shutterfly? do you use the cd they give you or just images from friends?? this sounds like a good idea!

That sounds like very few pictures to me. Our main album (base amount) is going to have 60-80 pictures and I am freaking out that it won't be enough. Also, our parent albums have 24 pictures in each.

they give you all retouched images on dvd.

that is what i did with my engagement shoot.

I'm getting 30 images in the album too. When I asked if I could upgrade it to 50, I was told that now that would be an extra $600. But if I add 20 pictures after the wedding, its an extra $440.

Make sure they put the price per extra picture in the contract.

I'm also only doing 1 photographer. I don't see the need for 2.

If you really want to book with them, you may want to ask for more pictures. I went there for a quote and they were offering me a Designer Magazine Album with 40 pictures 10 x 10.

We're doing the same thing through Patken. The way the guy explained to use was that the Lab they send the albums too charges for the initial album and depending on how many photos you chose that's how many pages you will need. He said if we add pictures on later its doesn't cost as much to add pages then if you went with a larger book initially. Hope that make sense lol
