Patken Photography - Opinions??

Hi Girls - I know alot of you are using Patken
So my FI and I went yesterday and met w/ Doug who we LOVE - love his work love everything- w/ ONE exception that made us VERY uncomfrotable -
we have a wedding of 250 guests - he works completely ALONE and only shoots 300 proofs ??? - That made me a little uneasy about the whole thing. -
Any ideas ??

I am using patken too, but from what I have heard you wind up with alot more than 300 proofs. Hope this helps. He is very good and I am sure he knows what he is doing, he will not jip you out of pictures and I am sure he will make sure you will get enough pictures of everything you need.

Good luck!!

I never met with Doug or Patken, however I would say for 250 guests I would go with 2 photographers. I am shooting to have ~100 guests and am having one photographer. The number of proofs is a tough call. Getting 1000 proofs of cr@ppy quality does you no good, whereas 300 good proofs can make all the difference...

I selected my photographer based on 1. his images and 2. his personality...

I'm also using Doug. Don't be discouraged that he works alone. He's been doing this for a long time and has taught the guys that work for him everything they know. Doug alone can do the work of 2 or 3 photographers. Trust me, if you go with him, you won't be sorry!

I completely trust his ability to capture the day perfectly - I'm just a little uneasy about the idea of one photographer- I think we're going to go w/ Perceptions instead. - Both guys had awesome personalities
We went to JoVon as well and I was NOT happy w/ the fact that they would not let us meet a photographer until we booked- That made my decision, although again the pictures were beautiful !! -
Who knew this was going to be so difficult ??? =)

I didn't know anyone 'had' to work alone. When i went to meet with Patken a girls came in to pick up her portriat (which was BEAUTIFUL), she said that she had 3 photographers...

Personally i liked them...I didn't pick them because i liked the video better with my photographer..

when they say 300...you will have at least 300 proofs..

i love patken.. they advised us of the same thing (working alone) if one person can do a job of 2, i say you are saving money! no?

I think it sounds like alot for one man to handle. I am sure his work is lovely but I can't see how man can do 2 man's work. It is simply improbable for that size of a wedding.

I am using Doug also! I comletely loved his work an couldnt say no- it didnt bother me that he works alone- and the 300 is definitely a min.- he hinted that he shoots way more than that. Besides most of the pics are of youand hubby- not the 250 guests...

Book him!!

that's assuming one wants it that way...

i actually stressed to my photographer that i don't necessarily want all the photos of me and FH, i want him to document the day. so many times i have heard after the fact 'oh i wish i had a picture of/with so-and-so.' for me, the memories will include everyone and i want to capture that...

I don't know much about perceptions, we just recently booked Doug, He was pricey, but well worth it I thought He did my two sisters weddings and my fh brother. At all weddings he did well over 600 proofs by himself. He doesn''t take many doubles from what I saw. I think it is hard to compare him to most photographers , if you read about him on the web as individual; he sounds like he has helped to change the industry alot through his teachings. When I did a search on just his name, I saw pages and pages about him and his accomplishments through different orginizations. Don't know much, just think he is extremely qualified to do any wedding. Good Luck

He is a well renowned speaker and teacher - We were actually lucky enough to have him film & shoot our wedding as a documentary for future lectures!

the 300 is just a minimum.. meaning you get no less.... plenty of people had well over that, also as someone said you could have a photographer take 1000 pics, but theyre may be a lot of bad pics.. so a number isnt all to go by... quality matters too..

Doug is awesome

300 is a min. You'll definatly get a lot more then that

Doug is very talented and can do it all

I used Patken and I used Steve. Doug is an Amazing photographer!!! They take way more than that, I have well over 300 proofs and I had close to 200 people at my wedding.

I can honestly say they covered everything I wanted and covered my whole wedding. I gave them a must have list also and they got everything I asked for & more.

You won't be sorry with your decision

Also if you really want a 2nd photographer they will use one but I honestly don't see the need.
