Patken Photography - Opinions??

Original post by Marisa&Brian

Hi Girls - I know alot of you are using Patken
So my FI and I went yesterday and met w/ Doug who we LOVE - love his work love everything- w/ ONE exception that made us VERY uncomfrotable -
we have a wedding of 250 guests - he works completely ALONE and only shoots 300 proofs ??? - That made me a little uneasy about the whole thing. -
Any ideas ??

I think it sounds like alot for one man to handle. I am sure his work is lovely but I can't see how man can do 2 man's work. It is simply improbable for that size of a wedding.

So untrue!

How are photos and video any different. I remeber you saying you wanted the 2 camera coverage for video(so do I) so how is photgraphy any different?

eta - i just put in my 2 cents, if she likes it then she should go for it, but conidering it makes her uncomfortable she need not go with Patken to be part of the fold. If it makes her VERY uncomfortable as she put it then she should not book, and this goes for ANY vendor.

My brother used them for his wedding. Let me start off by saying - talent is not in question here - the album is beautiful!!!

Her only complaint was that they didn't get some very 'expected, traditional' photos. She did admit that she didn't give a 'must take' list - she felt that the 'missing' photos were standard.

So I guess one suggestion would be to put together a list if that will make you feel more comfortable.

Hope that helps!

Yes I wanted & got the 2 camera VIDEO coverage for CHURCH, so that I can get me & me dad in the vestibule before we walked down the aisle, my nephews playing in the quiet room while we took our vows etc. and I also feel my mass was the most important part of my day. Thats the real wedding, the rest is just a celebration.
But I bet Wild Rose would have done just as great a job with 1 camera.

No if she is uncomfortable she shouldnt go with Patken, or Duet for that matter'to be part of the fold'!

I was married already & I used Patken and I am posting as to my knowledge of what I have ALREADY gotten. I am happy with all my photos and I feel my 1 photographer captured my entire day & very well at that!

If you read what I wrote above, I wrote she can have more than one photographer from Patken.

why would it matter how many guest are there? isn't the photographer there for bride and groom? if they wanted pics of guest, they would say, take 'x' amount of pics of our guest enjoying them selves... right?

any pic taken in color can be turn into b/w anyway...

I know you had great pics and great video.I was lucky enough to see them both . I am not saying who she should pick but no matter how good the photographer is, if she feels uneasy about having one photographer then she shouldn't book, then she should have 2. If she can add a photographer to go with Patken, with no financial strain then I say go for it. I just think the more the merrier

o that is good to know. So then the best way to o it is to take your pics in black and white and then choose which ones you want in color?? That sounds like a good idea, is that how they do it?

I don't think it can go this way - a different type of film is used for black and white pics.

Color film can have the color removed but I think it's expensive to have negatives colorized.

I personally liked Patken....I forgot who I talked to, but I did not want to go with such a 'wedding' photographer.....their work is great but looking at several girls' proofs, I feel like I keep seeing the same poses over and over again. We went with a professional photographer, not specifically 'wedding photographers' but they do weddings often....
I have 2 photographers all day...she does the photojournalistic and he does the traditional

i agree with the that with the poses..but these are unqiue to all the other photogaphers that i seen and they still combining other formal type shots... its not just line up, guys on one side, girls on the other..

i MAY do the following (still have to decided):

have everything shot in color.
scan the negatives.
create digital black and whites to print.

if i don't do that i will have the photographer take a healthy combo of color and BW.
