Since I've become a topic on the forum created by other members here you go

My name Patricia. I am engaged to be married next summer. I am in my last year of college at UPenn.

I came to this site to do 2 things: 1- Do some research for my own wedding. 2- Do research for my paper/project. The topic I chose was Communications among women in groups and Individually.

To some of you, you will be mad at this point I am sure and I apologize for that. I used the site becasue there are 2 areas in which women talk about the most. One pregnancy the other weddings. I used the forum because it is an area of constant communication. With the posts and replys I was able to observe how women communicate with one another even though they'v never met.

When I first came to the site I posted genuine questions about myself and what I was going through. Some replied and gave their honest and genuine feelings and opinons on the matter. I was not asked if I was new to the site or what I was doing. Which was fine it is a large group of people talking in an oline atmosphere. I replied to posts and nothing happened. But when I decied to ask questions, none that can be considered intrusive or controversial then the ball started rolling. The questions taken from magazines and other websites. People answered the posts and things went on from there.

What I didnt know that there was a level of heirarchy on this site. Communication failure #1- Look for the leader of group. When I failed to join a group or buddy up my name was used as a TOPIC. Only one person actually took the time to ask questions privately via email. She chose a less evasive route to get to know me. That will be the positive spin to my paper. While others, If I was a person who was easily made uncomfortable would have left the site due to peer-pressure. Some said I was asking too many questions. Funny thing I assumed that was the point and purpose of a Forum. It is a person's personal choice to answer any question they have and give their own opinion. But as always in any qroup atmosphere there are those who feel they are the unappointed leader. Case in point the remark about knowing one's place on this site ,that particular person has been here longer than the other.

I am sure some of you will be upset. Some of you may not care. On both points that is fine. My intention wasn't to cause disagreements. Though in a sense I didn't it was the sarcasitc replies that caused those. I'm not using any real names since I dont know them or your sn's just observations of that I can use in my paper/project.

I hope you all have wonderful weddings and are beautiful brides. I'll continue to use the site for my wedding but wont participate in the Forum section.Even if this wasn't for a paper this section of the site can be way more stressful than the planning aspect of my wedding.

Speaking for us 07 girls, I believe we all have good intent to make this as happy a forum as possible. Your right though....there are a few (with whom I won't name) that can make things difficult to feel a part of 'the group' if you will. I was subject to this, so I speak from experience. As far as being mad because this was a project. Not me!!! I'm glad you found this forum resourceful for your information on communication. If I have offended you in anyway, I sincerly apologize. But I don't think I did. So if you choose to hang out, and enjoy the boards thats great!!! If not, from one soon to be bride to another, I wish you lots of luck and happiness in your upcoming marriage, and a kick a$$ grade on your project.

eta: im sorry, but Im not on here to be a guniea pig! I am here to talk honestly about weddings!

Have to give the girl props for #1 being honest and #2 sticking up for herself.

Sorry that things turned out the way they did, FYI there was some drama with another bride on here and some girls thought it was her.

Promise we are not like that and are here to plan our Weddings and make new friends.

You are more then welcome to stick around and I am sure there are a lot more people out there that are doing the same thing, but are lying about it.

You were once a subject??? wow... I mean people have tried to be nasty to me once or twice but I have either igonored it or someone else stuck up for me. We are all here to help eachother out, get ideas and let not kid ourselves but we have all made friends on this site.

I think that what you have to understand though is that there are actually people who come on these websites and pose as brides (but really aren't) and people around here are VERY sensitive to things like that, and (let's admit it ladies) may get a little carried away when they suspect a faker.

and you kept using the icon, which is the symbol for someone who is faking... so it was confusing. And usually newbies kind of ease themselves in instead of suddenly posting a whole barrage of questions.

Anyway... I guess I just feel like maybe you're getting the wrong view of things here, and I would hate to see you use the wrong info in your paper.

You're certainly right though about the way people interact... but that's how people are in real life! Did you really expect anythign different? It's amazing, but really interaction on the internet isn't all that different, it just gets carried further sometimes because it's 'safer' - afterall, you don't have the person in front of you, so it's easier to just say whatever you want.

Anyway. Please do stick around and get to know how things really operate. I don't always love the way people talk to each other and relate on this site, but I find these chat boards to be the best resource I have found for planning my wedding - I've gotten more info from the boards than from anything else I've tried. As for the drama - you have 3 options - you can ignore it, you can get involved in it, or you can just read it and allow yourself to be amused/disgusted/whatever.
