Just to clarify, yes he has pancreatic cancer but it is NOT terminal. His doctors are very optimistic as he is responding well to the treatment.

Re: Patrick Swayzie doesn't have terminal cancer
but if u read that stats most patients do not live past 5 yrs. the life expectancy is 6-9 months.
we were optimistic too about my grandmother and thankfully she has lived 2 yrs since being diagnosed but she is at the end of her rope right now.

unfortunately pancreatic cancer (As far as I know) does not respond well to Chemo or radiation. It's just an extremely viscious cancer that doesn't want to listen to medicine at all. There is rapid metastis involved. My DF's grandfather was diagnosed on a saturday and passed away exactly 1 week later. I would love to think that this is curable, tragically I have had MANY patients in their 30's, 40's, and 50's lost to this. That's not to say that people don't live a year or two (I have not seen more in my experience), but either way it is just a very sad and tragic cancer because so many patients are young.

Also, many patients do not do well as by the time it is detected the disease is in advanced stages. It can seem like stomach ache or indigestion for months before people see a doctor. Hopefully Patrick's was caught early.

I dont think the metastasis is more rapid than other cancers, it's just that pancreatic cancer symptoms do not present themselves at first, so by the time they figure out what's wrong and diagnose the patient, metastasis has ocurred.
