Re: Paying Extra for a 'special' cake?
If you really don't like the one they give at the hall, then maybe it's worth checking out? I don't know about the price, I think I remember seeing old posts that say the avg price of an outside cake was $2 a slice but ask around.

we're adding on to the cake.
We dont want it white on the outside it would SERIOUSLY clash with everything we have. And my heart is SET on Red Velvet for the inside.
The hall owes me money for not using their centerpieces and they also balance in the cost of the cake as it was, so I figure Im getting what I want for still a fraction of it's original price.

Re: Paying Extra for a 'special' cake?
I haven't looked around for prices of cakes but my hall does supply one, I'm going to look at the ones the hall supplies and figure it out then. I love how they say 'it's included' DUH I'm paying all that money for my guests to eat it better be included!

I was surprised.....I found one that the hall does that I think is really beautiful. So to answer your question....no I won't be paying extra. Then, again I could change my mind and want something else. That happens a lot with me.

I say if you really want it go for it! My hall's cake was pretty and a great flavor too, but it wasn't what I really wanted. So I ordered a 'special' cake - and I was very happy I did
Usually the price goes by the amount of people you are having. There was one website I looked at and the price was $10-$15 a person. So after looking looking at those prices and looking at the price you gave - I say no that's not expensive.

Re: Paying Extra for a 'special' cake?
I heard most cakes are $10-$12/slice!! Mine is $6.50 because well she is not a greedy person and it is one lady, not a big company. It is being designed specifically for us and our venue. $350 is not a lot, depending on how many people it will serve. Our hall is refunding $2.00 per person for the cake, making our cake actually only $4.50/slice.

Re: Paying Extra for a 'special' cake?
My hall could have been provided the cake but they would just be going to an outside baker anyway, so I am having them provide a second dessert (tartufo) and I'm going directly to the baker.
I am using Alpine in Smithtown and we were quoted only $400 for a 4 tier cake with canoli filling and fresh cream. We're using fresh flowers to decorate.
I've only heard good things about Alpine and one of my best friends used them and said even one year later, the cake was just as moist and delicious as it was on her wedding day.
Hope this helps!

Re: Paying Extra for a 'special' cake?
I was told by my hall that all I have to do is bring in a picture of cake I like and they will recreate it, it's included. They did tell me though that they are unable to do sugar flowers. Oh well.
