For those that are, how are you 'cutting corners'?
we are going to attempt a lot of DIY's cutting out cry packs, slipper baskets etc..

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
1. I bring a bag lunch to work
2. DIY's
3. Wedding is during the week instead of the weekend (saved money)

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
ps: be flexible with your date! We originally wanted a fall wedding, but we would've had less time to plan, and it would've cost us SO much more per person. We opted for a friday night winter wedding(which originally i NEVER would've thought to have) and it was gorgous and completely unique...AND we got to do so much more considering the money we were saving for our RH. Even if u dont want to do winter, look for weekends around holidays...even things like columbus day, memorial day..if they're not booked u can get a great deal! Here's a link to my review: Our December Wedding Review!!!
All the best!

Day wedding on a sunday in february (can't get much cheaper than that)
small BP (less $ on gifts and LESS headache!)
got married at hall---so no need to decorate church with flowers and such
one limo only---picked up the boys, then came back and picked up the girls and my parents. (no need for limo from church to hall since it was same location)
we're doing all of the same things! also, no video, stuck to a strict budget for my dress & shoes. things we splurged on were photography because you'll always have the pics, and our (ok, my) ring, but again, because i'll have it forever.

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
One thing I can say, is research research research. I am saving tons of money just researching all the things I want to find the best prices. Also figure out what is important to you. For me photography is my number one priority, so i spent the most there. But I found great favors for $1.40 each that my florist is working into center pieces. Also my FH do not buy ANYTHING we don't need. We just moved back from the West coast so we don't even have winter clothes and we are just dealing with it

My FH is working extra hours at work..I work freelance but I work at nights..and when another job comes up I TAKE IT. I don't get expensive dinners at work anymore..i eat before I leave and just get a $3 snack IF ANYTHING to hold me over...we don't go to the movies or out alot anymore..usually stay in...
Im going cheap on the invitations and favors

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
You know how some vendors offer a list of packages at a set price and things you can add to the package a la carte (like for photo and video)? Well, we took the packages and customized them based on what we wanted (excluded stuff we didn't want and added things that were important to us) and used this to negotiate price with the vendors. This way we received competitive prices on the things we wanted, not just getting a package with some things we could do without and having to pay extra to add things we wanted.
ETA: Oh yeah and I used the Bridal Bargains book which gives you ideas on how to save money. It suggests to buy invitations on Costco.com. So I was able to get the same invitations that they sell at eInvite.com for 30% off!

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
We chose a friday night because it was cheaper. We are also doing our own centerpieces. The programs we are doing off the computer and we arent going crazy with invitations and calligraphy and stuff. I am having a lia sophia jewlery party so I can get free jewelry and i will put that towards the bridal parties jewelry. We did splurge and get a hummer but since we are getting married at the hall, we didnt get a second limo, rather it is going to pick the men up first and drop them off at the hall and then come pick up my girls. hmmm if i think of anything else i will let you know.

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
we arent really cutting corners - but we booked the RH on a friday night in december....so we'll be having a holiday wedding which i think is different and fun but it also helped us save a lot of $$$ - the money we are saving at the RH we can use towards other things that we wouldnt be able to afford if we had a summer or fall wedding on a saturday.....
we try to bring lunch to work and we try not to spend money on ourselves.....we just keep trying to save as much as we can.....hopefully we can do it!

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
we're having a Sunday evening wedding in January....but it works out because we both wanted a winter wedding & we're night people....AND it's the day before Martin Luther King Jr. day so most people have off of work the next day....

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
Our wedding is over but we used silk flowers instead of real, made our own invitations, did not get albums, etc. from photographer, had reception at KOC (got everything you would get at any catering hall).
