Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
well were done now, but we didn't eat out as much, we didn't buy a thing other then what was necessary, we stayed in on weekends and rented movies or had friends over, instead of going to bars where we used to blow at lease $200 in a night... we also knew that my dad was going to give us a decent check and his parents so we asked if they could give it to us early so we could put it towards the wedding, which we really needed instead of after the wedding.. HTH I know how hard it is but somehow in the end you always make it! GL

we did a lot of diy's too... web sites seem to have the best prices for paper and stuff, or at least i found but one other trip i found useful, i always searched the internet for coupon codes for the sites I was interested in buying from, usually 90% of the time i found one and it saved a lot!

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
i started bringing lunch instead of buying it everyday. we are just trying to save every penny, and paying mins on all other bills till after the wedding. FH sold his motorcycle. we're staying in more, cooking more, not vacationing. also whenever i get a paycheck, i allow myself to buy something wedding related. so i buy placecards here, shoes there, etc etc. im trying to pay everything in cash so im just buying things little by little.

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
Day wedding on a sunday in february (can't get much cheaper than that)
we didn't go nuts with flowers--just used rose petals and hurricane lamps with candles as CPs
small BP (less $ on gifts and LESS headache!)
used Barron's & Tri-County for my veil and headpiece. (paid 1/3 of the price the bridal shop wanted)
used shoebuy.com for my shoes (they always have great specials, no charge for tax & shipping
got married at hall---so no need to decorate church with flowers and such
one limo only---picked up the boys, then came back and picked up the girls and my parents. (no need for limo from church to hall since it was same location)

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
My parents are paying for the reception but they're not made of money so we r having a Sunday night wedding. FH and I r paying for almost everything else so we booked the wedding for 1 year from when we got engaged so we could save $$$.
A few other things we r doing: -Our ceremony and reception are at the same place so I don't think we're doing limos. -We're using the cake provided by the RH. -We're going to Aruba and Disney instead of Hawaii. -We may use a friend who is ordained as a minister to marry us.
Everything is still so expensive!

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
We decided no video and I did alot fo research for a photographer. I am doing centerpiece/slash favors (wine bottles) I am making my own invites, placecards etc. I went to tanger outlets for my bridesmaid gifts. I researched alot for a florist.
The best thing I did to help save money was go on this website because girls on here are so helpful. I got my florist and wine bottle connections from this site.
To save my FH and I do absolutely nothing we are not even buying christmas gifts for each other because we are putting every penny toward the wedding. We are getting married in March on a friday. good luck and whether you have a million dollar budget or a $20,000 budget your still going to stress so dont let the money thing get to you.
I forgot also one limo def and using the cake from the hall is a big thing.

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
BUDGET, BUDGET, BUDGET. and stick to it.
We didn't do : STD's slipper baskets bathroom baskets custom aisle runner individual menu cards (we did 2 per table) programs card box / bird cage / photo box a large bridal party gift bags for OOT guests
We : got married at RH - no limos needed, flowers for ceremony were included in RH fee. had a daytime wedding (saved $50 pp) put money where it would be noticed most - food, booze, flowers and a very nice favor. We didn't skimp on photography and videography because these are our memories.
I cut corners on a less expensive invitation so I had extra money for custom table numbers, menu cards and escort cards. Use a smaller, less weightier invite to save on postage. I didn't buy an expensive gown. I bout my veil and headpiece at Barron's. Day of jewelry was borrowed. I splurged on good shoes, so I didn't have to change into other shoes.
We also stopped going out. I brought breakfast and lunch to work, cooked instead of ordering in, stretched my hair & nail appointments when I could, didn't go away on vacation. No big gifts for Christmas and birthdays.

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
Well we are getting married on a Sunday, but it wasn't to save money. Our original date wasn't available in the room we wanted. But still it saves us $$ pp. We will not be doing: STD's slipper baskets bathroom baskets (the RH provides it) custom aisle runner (limo company provides one) We Do letters or any kind of cake topper (our florist is decorating the cake) multiple limos (we're only using one) flowers for the church RD at a restaurant (we're having it catered and at a house) petal cones cry packs
I don't think I'm spending a ton on everything but it's all stuff I've always wanted for my wedding so I'm happy with all my choices.

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
we didnt' really cut corners. . .we had a 2 1/2 year engagement and came up with a standard savings plan like the week after he proposed that we both agreed HAD to be adhered.
It's been hard, but I'm so happy we did it that way because now we have enought that we don't really have to cut corners or sacrifice things that we really want to have.

In addition to all the good suggestions mentioned above, I didn't have a DOC or favors. The sky didn't fall

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
The only thing we cut on so far, was the cocktail hour. Instead of an elaborate affair with carving stations and such, we are going heavy on the hors' d'oeuvre's. Other than that, I'm just making deals and trying to get the best prices before I sign contracts : )

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
Luckily once we knew we were gonig to get married---2 years before we got engaged-we started to bring lunch to wrk and save more $$ Now we have enough $$ for the wedding, but I still want to have $$ left over to save for a down payment for a house So, I looked for good prices--my favors, I researched online and went to the store that had them the cheapest and I am doing 1 per couple Luckily, we are getting flowers for free (his dad and stepmom own the shop) My uncle is doing the limos(owns the comp) and his mom is in the industry, so we got the DJ for a good price I already got my invitations--well in advance, but the place was having a good sale I negotiated with my dress, and we are not doing a lot of extras like STD or programs Just make a budget for the wedding and make a budget of how much you would like to save from every paycheck--it should help

Re: Paying for the wedding yourselves
negotiate negotiate, research research research!!! we shopped around a LOT for our vendors and went through some of our friends that had connections. Then we'd bring the best price we got back to our first choice vendor to see what they could do. If we would've initially signed contracts without negotiating we would've spent SO much more money! We also built up a relationship with our banquet manager & had him call in some favors to his inhouse vendors... and for our florist we used a private one that does all of her work from her home. her work is BEAUTIFUL and we saved SOO much money!(feel free to FM me if u want her info!). If u take your time, do ur research, and negotiate u will definetly save yourselves TONS of mula. good luck!
