PAYING VENDORS

PAYING VENDORS

I know some people have said not to pay off vendors right away for various reasons. As $$ comes available I am trying to get as much out of the way as possible.

I know, Photo/Video are not ones you can pay off since you wait for your proofs, but which vendors would be ok to pay off now?

Officant?
Limo's?
Flowers?

Thanks

hey bari!
you know how i feel about this! i think if they have a good reputation, and you know their work and history, it's okay to pay vendors like the officiant, flowers, and such. perhaps the DJ and limos too? if nothing else--give that money to the hall! cause that price tag creeps up on you suddenly and then it's BAM! a huge chunk you gotta pay!

This is tough because most of the vendors you mention get paid the 'day of'.. I kinda like holding off the payment to that day so that I can make sure they show up. I guess Im paranoid.

I guess florists don't get paid 'day of' so that might be a good one.

Sure you don't want to put the $$ in savings account and earn a little interest in the next 4 months Bari?

Re: PAYING VENDORS

I had a very bad experience paying a very popular vendor (DJ) some extra money then deciding that he was not the one for me HE gave me the runaround to get my money back although HIS contract clearly states $50 non-refundable so this leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

However I know time is coming near and we don't really want to deal with money on our big days so I suggest just put the money aside until a month or two before your wedding where you know you will not or cannot change your mind on anything....JMO

I'm getting all the church fees done with this month. I would wait on all your other vendors.

I kind of have the same mentality as you Bari (shocking )..I've been paying all vendors (except the video, photog and HM) more than needed. Most have been paid close to 3/4 of the entire price by now. The reason for this is that we just don't want to get completely slammed in April when final payments are due. All of my vendors are reputable and have been around for a while so I am pretty confident that this will work out just fine.

i am using vendors that my sister in law used, so i (naively enough) paid almost every balance - flowers and hall are left. My photographer questioned me to make sure i didnt want to hold onto the money, but like you've its easier to get it over with. I am going to have to pay one way or the other, so why not do it when we can. I also didnt want to run around like a chicken w/o a head two days before teh wedding when I fly up to ny. I'll only need to pay teh hall and florist then and pick up my dress - do what you feel comfortable with

I am going to pay most of the balances off. As soon as I get money I send it to a vendor. I will spend it if I dont.

honestly, I am paying off the limos now. We are going with Sir Oliver and I have heard nothing but great things about them, so I am comfortable doing that.

I am keeping the money in my account to earn interest until everything needs to be paid. Then when people want their money I will give it to them. Otherwise, I will make up envelopes to be paid out the day of the wedding. I will make my brother handle all of this.

I have to pay off my hall ASAP.. it will just be a HUGE weight off my shoulders.. and everyone else I am paying casually.. I plan on leaving a balance with my photographer until after the wedding bc I want to see my proofs first

Hmm well I am dfinately going to do flowers. I am going to leave the finally 500 till the due date and pay a large chunk when I go to see my sample centerpiece in March. And also I would leave some till the end sinc they do only give u estimates and there may be less tables which means less to pay

Re: PAYING VENDORS

i would put the money aside for each respective vendor. We willnot be paying any vendors until they have rendered the services as stated in the contract. With the exception of my florist- which we will pay in full 2 weeks before the wedding-

we set up an account specifically for vendor fees.

Re: PAYING VENDORS

Hey Bari,

There are certain vendors that I will be paying off as soon as money becomes available.

I STRONGLY suggest YOU DO NOT PAY OFF YOUR DOC (and YOU know who I am talking about) until after the wedding and not at rehersal.

I would pay of Duet as they are VERY reputable.

Hall- Def

Limos- I would wait

DJ- Depends on who- mine I will as I have total confindence in them

Florist- yes depending on who- IF it's my personal favorite FM- then yes

I really do not believe that putting the money in the back will accumilate that much interest btw now and May.

In all IF you have total confidence in your vendor(s), excluding your DOC then pay them off- the less headache you will have to deal with in May.

I'm the opposite. I don't want to give anyone money until I have to. Think about it -- the more money you have in the bank, the more interest you can collect on it, and the more you'll have to spend when the time comes!
Also, I feel like if you pay the vendor in full, they don't even have to show up. Of course, most would never consider this, but you just never know...

We are paying them off as we go along. I have complete faith in each and every single one of my vendors which was VERY important to us.

No one has tried to $crew us so, as we put money away we give a little bit to each, so to make the final payments a little less

I am going to pay my video and photo a little more money before the wedding.....But, I think I am not going to pay my Limos up front...little nervous about that one! How would I get to the church?

I am doing the same thing. I just paid for my dress this weekend, and I haven't had my first fitting yet.
