I paid for my dress in cash this morning and when my dad found out he shook his head at me like I did something wrong. He said you should always pay with a check so you have the canceled check as proof that you paid. I got a receipt with a letter head and both her and my signature at the bottom. Shouldn't that be enough? By paying in cash I avoided paying tax. I gave my florist cash for the same reason...and planned on giving the photog cash.
Now he has me worried....about that and about whether or not I will get the right dress. I'm getting it from Phyllis at gownfind, and since there are no pictures online, I had to go by style # only (I got the style # off the tag at Lillette's). I described the dress, but it won't do much good because the designer won't release pictures of the 'limited edition' dresses.
Am I crazy for doing this to save a few hundred bucks (more than a few actually- the dress went from over budget to under budget)?
My dad just totally rained on my parade...I know he's just trying to look out for me...but now I feel like throwing up.
Any thoughts?

Re: Paying vendors in cash...
i paid cash for almost everything so far - EXCEPT my dress.
I wanted the Credit Card company's support if something went wrong. At this point, I'm soooo glad I did that. My dress came in WRONG! It was reordered, and won't be in until May now. IT BETTER BE RIGHT

Re: Paying vendors in cash...
I paid in cash for everything...including my gown. No worries - it will be okay. Having the signed receipt copy should be fine...no worries!!!! Any reputable vendor is not going to screw you!

As long as you have a receipt, I think you will be ok, I have been paying with my Visa check card though!

As long as you have a receipt with the exact dress on it you should be fine. It's the receipt that gives you the power not the cancelled check!

Re: Paying vendors in cash...
A receipt won't do you good if the place shuts down.
Just an FYI... I know some bridal places only take cash but if they close... you don't get it back.
That happened to my cousin, all her BM lost their dresses and their money. Except for the 1 who put it on her CC, her CC company gave her back the money.
When I shop around I make sure that everyone takes check or CC.
We haven't paid cash for 1 thing yet.
Just something to think about.

We paid cash for almost everything so far. I personally do not want to put anything on my Credit Card because I would rather pay and get it out of the way. Just get receipts for everything!

Im paying for my dress and i just put down 75% in cash.
PLEASE DONT WORRY. IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG YOU HAVE A RECEIPT AND YOU HAVE 'HELP ME HOWARD' AND OTHER SIMILAR NEWSPEOPLE

We have paid cash for alot of things. Some things we didnt. I think you are fine, maybe next time just to save yourself have whoever is taking your payment write paid with the date and amount this way there is no question. NOT that I see there being one

I agree. I have paid by check to all of my vendors because I don't walk around with that kind of cash, but it it saves you money and if you keep the receipt, you will be fine.
I think your father thinks like my Mom does, if you pay with a check the proof never gets lost.

Re: Paying vendors in cash...
We are paying cash for some things and as long as you have a receipt saying that you paid the vendor, I don't think it would matter.

Re: Paying vendors in cash...
I've paid for everything in cash because we wanted to avoid the taxes. I think so long as you retain the receipts and keep them all organized you will be just fine.
