I think they remove caluses with a razor tool

don't do it - it actually makes your feet temporarily softer, but it will make things worse in the long run. razoring means that they literally use a razor to scrape off the dead skin off your heels, etc. it doesn't hurt (although it sounds like it would). yes, it is illegal in certain areas.

just have them use a pumice stone on your heels and the other rough areas - that will sufice.

good luck! pedicures are fun :)

I have heard of this before. I heard it does not hurt. I would not get it done. Actually they are supposed to change the razor blade everytime, and I don't think all places do that. I just say no when they ask.

Me too. I have my own pedicure knife (razor) that I always bring. It doesn't hurt. My feet need this or else I get these calluses and splits in my feet.

I have heard of this, but they have never used it on me or asked, usually they just use a pumice stone which does the trick

I used to get it BUT stopped when I heard that some places use the same razor on customers...which is a health code violation...

I have also heard that it is not good for your skin

When I get a pedi they never ask me this. OMG, that sounds like it hurts. I've never seen this done...or maybe I just live in a shell. I wouldn't do that...it's probably there for a reason.

Your feet have to be thicker skined...you walk on them all day!

Personally, I would never have it done.

Re: Pedicures... Razor???

It's excellent.. I had a pedicure and manicure today for the first time in a nail salon with a spa..

I believe it is cheaper here in Fl then in NY the Pedicure & Manicure was 30.00 includes the spa etc then he charged me 10.00 extra for the tips...

I know the last time in 1998 when I had my nails done it was 30.00 just for tips...

The razor doesn't hurt if you go to the spa one that they put your feet and soak them in water your feet are so soft that the dead skin comes off 1-2-3 you don't even feel it.

My feet were killing me before I had the razor, and it was excellent.... Todayso I tried this new place here

My feet no longer hurt me..

My dad told I'd feel much better if I had it done I thought it was going to hurt also but it didn't and he has to have it done all the time at the foot dr..

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT let a salon razor your feet!!!

get a podiatrist to do it or buy your own at cvs. i bought my own as well as refill blades.

it is SO EASY for them to slice open your feet and plus they do not change the blade for each person. a blade gets dull after one use and basically they're using a dull blade on YOUR skin...you're just asking for problems.

i too thought it was illegal in NY.

Same here. And my salon sells the blades too for when I run out of blades and need refills. I replace the blade every other time I get a pedicure.

My mom owns a nail salon and it is DEFINITELY illegal in NY due to health and sanitation issues. A lot of places that still do it do not change the razor after each client (don't believe them if they say they do). A podiatrist can do it for you if you have a lot of callouses on your feet, but honestly I think a good rubbing with a pumice stone should suffice!

Definitely illegal in New York, as is nipping/cutting cuticles.

Oh my gosh that totally freaks me out. One of my friend's loves to get it done and I starting referring to it as pecorino ramono-ing her feet...like when you go to an Italian restaurant and they put cheese shavings on your food. BLECH! That's a nice image for everyone, huh? The person cut her foot last time though and she was hobbling around for a couple days after.

I believe it is because it can lead to infection, but everyone does it. When I was in esthetics school (last year) the nail students were instructed to not nip the cuticles. I'll have to look it up in my law pamphlet, but there are a lot of 'gray' areas in the NYS Law when it comes to this.
