People Making Comments about your WEIGHT!!!

Original post by cluelessbride

I got home from work late and ate a pop-tart for dinner. I am well aware that a pop-tart is not healthy or low-calorie. But when my FMIL says to me 'I guess there goes the Weight Watchers?' I want to STRANGLE HER!!!

What do you say to nimrods like her???

i can relate, im not skinny but im certainly not fat. i work in a school and yesturday another teacher came up to me and told me that everyone in the school is talking about how much weight i have gained and that my FH is going to leave me because of it and that i have been letting myself go. i was so insulted that he was telling me this as well as peple talking about it. i admit that i had put on a few pounds over the two week vacation because i didnt go to the gym and i ate a lot, but dont take a big insecurity and blow it up to the fact that everyone notices and that because of it my FH will leave me.
people are so insensitive to womens weight. we all cant be perfect, it only matters that we feel good about ourselves.

I would have said

'well I heard you have a small weiner' and walked away

I wanted to add- I used to be really skinny growing up- and I wanted so much to gain weight, well I did, but there are those people who make reference to the weight I have gained, it is annoying, but I laugh it off and ignore them.

I would probably deal with a weight comment with a sarcastic remark like 'yeah well what'ya gonna do?' or 'well WW is out the window today obviously' roll my eyes at the person and continue eating my delicious pop-tart! YUM!

bdcrosby! Just read what happened to you! That is just absolutely TERRIBLE! I cannot believe people have the ba**s to say something like that to another person! UGH! Makes me so mad!

People are just so rude sometimes!

At christmas a friend of the family came up to my FH and said 'wow you ahve put on alot of weight. No really you can see it in your face, its more round...'

I was appauled when I found out! This is a person we are farily close to and see rather often! And my FH is not heavy in any way! Has he gained weight but its been a gradual thing over 4 years since he graduated from college! and besides that what gives anyone the right to make such rude and tactless comments on something like that!

He is much nicer than I am, I told him I would have said thanks and your looking mighty wrinkled and old today yourself!

Thanks you guys for being so understanding

Dbcrosby and jannshari

It is also, IMO, a form of aggression. I mean, it immediately puts you in the position of defending yourself, either because the person is so clueless (HA!) and you want to tell them off, or because you want to make a joke so it doesn't look like they hurt your feelings.

My sister is a very normal weight, very fit, and I am amazed how people think it is ok to comment on her weight too.

Anyway, thanks for understanding!

Poor thing.

If I were in a similar position with my FMIL, I'd say, 'Yeah, that's what Flex Points are for!' I lost 2 pounds one week where I had eaten an entire pint of Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough Ice Cream. That's the beauty of Weight Watchers.

Stuff it, Clueless Bride's FMIL.

Re: People Making Comments about your WEIGHT!!!

right after i started dating Tom, I went on a diet and lost about 30 pounds...but he had an old picture of me at work....where i was heavier.
so when i met HIS BOSS at a Haloween Party as my skinnyier self....his boss said, and I quote,
'Wow, you don't look as fat in person as you do in that picture!'
And then continued to tell me that for the rest of the night.....
I guess it was his way of giving me a compliment - but come on!!!!
People dont' realize the impact of their words!
