People requesting THEIR wedding song to be played at YOUR wedding??

Ive had a few people tell me that they were going to request their wedding song to be played at my wedding, or asked me to request that it be played.

Honestly with the amount of people who told me this, my whole reception would be just slow songs!

Anyone else having this problem or think its odd? I dont mind a few, but im talking like 6-7 people who have said this! I think thats a bit much for slow songs.

Only solution to this would be to tell the DJ absolutely no requests to be taken. We are telling our DJ the same. And that also goes for bday announcements and whatnot.

See I didnt want to tell the DJ to not play certain songs bc I know the guests want to enjoy themselves, but now I feel I have to!

We have a band that is phenomenal so I am not terribly worried. Even if people request it, I know they won't overplay the slow songs. The only wedding songs I am requesting are my mom's and FILs.

I think its kind of wrong to request your wedding song at someone elses wedding. If it plays that is nice, but its not about you.

If they want to hear their song so bad, they can play it on their CD at home... Im sorry- but its YOUR wedding!!!!! I get them wanting to relive the moment, but cmon!!!! A few songs is okay- but people want to really dance

wow... that's strange! it would be too many slow songs! i didn't have anyone do that at our wedding. oddly, though, we told the dj no electric slide and he came over to me and asked if he could play it cause he got so many requests for it

anyway, hopefully not everyone asks for their wedding song on your day!

We played my parents wedding song, our friends wedding song (they were married 6 weeks before us and played our soon to be wedding song for us, without us asking at thier wedding), and we played our groomsman's wedding song without him knowing, we also played the wedding song of a friend that I really admired.

I personally would never ASK someone to play our wedding song at their wedding. But if it was a close relative, I'd like to think they'd do it as a small thank you to us for being there. Even if it was at the CH.

I haven't had anyone request this-Honestly I would try to limit the number of requests played. The only wedding song I am having played at my wedding besides my own is my good friends wedding song b/c I am getting married on their anniversary...but I am doing this for them they have no clue!

The only problem with taking requests from guests is that it would certainly take away time from DJ list that you put in specifically for the DJ/band to play at the reception. Take into account that it will take up the space on the DJ list meaning some songs that you specifically want at your wedding will not be played. Unless it is separated into guests request. Keep in mind that the DJ's will be switching back and forth btwn songs and overlook the list. Let your guests know that you will not be able to accommodate their requests at this time since you had already put out your DJ list and submit everything to the vendor. I understand it might appear bad or horrible but if you do accommodate some of your guests, pretty soon the whole DJ list will get filled out b/c other people might get the idea to put in requests also and the list will get packed. Honestly, if you're paying for your reception, it's your big day, you should be able to play whatever you want. After all the booze and dancing, your guests won't even remember what songs were played. Don't stress too much over it!

I have no problem with people requesting fast, dance songs at the wedding. However, the reception just simply can't be all slow songs, and I think it's kinda presumptuous and silly to assume that your wedding song could be played at somebody else's wedding. Most DJs with tons of experience will definitely realize this and plan a playlist with you that is appropriate for the celebration--they wouldn't let that kind of shenanigans happen!!!

The CH idea is a good one, but we are having a steel drum band. Instead, maybe I will see if they can play some of them during dinner. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks girls! I thought that possibly I was being to sensitive about the situation. Thanks for reassuring me that I wasnt being ridiculous. I told the DJ to play only 2 slow songs and thats it. I want to party and we paid a pretty penny for the DJ.

I would simply tell them that you worked with your DJ/Band already and put together the song list. That being said, there were too many slow song requests and you can't possibly add anymore but you hope they'll love the ones you chose.

We are telling the DJ to not take any requests unless it's already on our list!

Our dj told us he wouldn't take requests like that (unless we said it was okay), because it was our day, and we hired him.
