FH & I want to have a nice big wedding, nice big and long honeymoon, and a nice place to live. We're really young and can't afford all of this at once...so we are going to take our HM a few months after the wedding to get back on our feet financially.
People are beginning to HARASS us about this...how we HAVE to go on our HM RIGHT away. And making us PROMISE them we will...even after I explain the financial aspect of it, and how we are going to enjoy our HM whenever we go. But they continue.
Anyone else have this odd issue? Or any advice as what to say?

Yes...we've gotten that. We're waiting a month or so, because we'll be moving in together after the wedding. So we'll need some time to settle in, and would rather have things sorted out as much as possible so we're not coming back to chaos, just to be able to say that we went on our HM immediately following the wedding.
To anyone that has gotten their panties in a bunch about it, I've told them that if they're so concerned then maybe they can hire professional movers to get us situated and take it as an offer that they'll be more than happy to oversee my cat assimilate to his, and vice-versa.
In your case, I'd tell them that if they're so concerned, then maybe they should pay for it since it's obviously bothering them so much.

I've actually had the opposite happen. People are telling me it's a good thing that I'm waiting, that way I have something to look forward to after the wedding and I can really enjoy the honeymoon. It could also be that I'm a teacher and getting married in the middle of the school year, so I really don't have another option.

You don't have to do anything you don't want to do. This is your time, no one else's.

Re: people starting to annoy me
I have the problem of us not having a place yet. He spends most of the time at my apt (we joke and say his name should be on deed) but he has two kids so we want a bigger place. We could not afford to move and wedding. I also did not want the stress.
I want to have something to look forward to after the wedding anyways and I LOVE apt hunting.
Some people think it's weird we won't be together 24/7 after we are married but to those people I wanna say a)how did that work for you? b) you can lend me some money and shut up.

that's freakin' stupid that they are making you promise them to go on your honeymoon right away. If they go that far then say. 'I promise... but then your gonna help pay for it.'

Re: people starting to annoy me
Screw em Jen! DH and I are going on our HM tomorrow which is our 5 month wedding anniversary. It was for scheduling reasons, not financial ones but who cares what anyone says? I know someone who got married in October and just got back from their HM!
It's actually pretty nice because the hype from the wedding has died down and now we got to be excited about this for a while!

Re: people starting to annoy me
We are waiting too because we both teach and have to wait til the summer. My aunt was REALLY big on us going away right away, and it turns out that it's because she and my uncle were going to have a slightly delayed honeymoon, then something came up, and they never ended up going. SO, what she did for me as a wedding present was arrange for us to spend 2 nights in NYC right after the wedding - hotel, show, and dinner. I'm sure that peoples' point is that you should have some time to spend to yourselves before rejoining the 'real world'. I would suggest an inexpensive minimoon (even to the Poconos or out east somewhere), or if that's not possible, to promise to lock yourselves up at home for a day or 2 with a promise of NO household chores, and just enjoy one another!

Re: people starting to annoy me
everyone has an opinion, i am sure its very annoying & can understand it upsetting you but you are doing what is best for you & your FH & your lives together. when people make @$$ backwards comments tell them that they are more then welcome to contribute to your wedding fund, honeymoon fund or house fund.
sorry but stuff like that really pisses me off.

Re: people starting to annoy me
Tell them if they are paying for it, you'd love to go right away. This is my new motto, taken from one of the girls on here (sorry I forgot who!)... Don't put your 2 cents in unless you're giving me 2 cents to put in!
We're waiting a couple of weeks to go on our honeymoon, and people think it's weird i'll be going back to work 3 days after the wedding. Not just for financial reasons, but neither one of us can take 3 weeks in a row off from work, and I want to relax a little first.

No matter what you do, I feel that people will try to convince you to do the opposite - or put their two cents in! It doesnt matter what anyone tells you what you SHOULD do - do what YOU want to do! The day is about the two of you and what you both want and no one else!
