People who invite themselves to the wedding

Hey ladies,
August Feather's fiance here......I'd like to know if anyone else is having the issue of people who are trying to 'GET ON THE INVITE LIST'..... I've had different people come right out and ask me if they're invited to the wedding (a co-worker, a sister's friend, my friend's friend from across the country!!!!....and various other randoms.....like people I was never tight with, but I guess they don't want to miss out on the festivities lol...... How do you gals handle this situation? I've told the co-worker that it was a small wedding and he came right out and asked me if anyone else from work was invited...to which I told him again that's it's a small wedding...and which he replied that he's a 'great gifter'.....Sooooo...i need tips on what to say! Please help!
P.S. It's not that small of a wedding.....but what else could I say?

Re: People who invite themselves to the wedding

I had one girl at work who I was not planning on inviting say to me in front of everyone 'I can't wait to go to your wedding' I felt so bad and did not want to embarass her, so I invited her, Everyone else who has said something to me, I kind of just laugh it off and then remind them how stressed out I am. Then I kind of just politely end the conversation and walk away and hope that they do not ask again .

I'm a fan of the truth. My friend asked me if her grown daughter was invited to the wedding because the save the date was only addressed to her and her hubbie. I was honest, I said i do like your daughter a lot however our budget is limited and in reality the only time I speak or interact with daughter is when I am with you. We don't have a friendship of our own and I am sorry but she's not invited. Maybe that is harsh but I think that the truth in these times is necessary it not a free for all.

Even though you said it's not particularly a small wedding, ours was the same, and that is what I told less-close friends that were unable to invite - that the wedding was so big with the family and closest people, that we really could not manage more than that.

Our dance instructor told us he'd love to come to our wedding. I said 'we'll have to check the guest list'. He said 'Aren't like 200 people going?' (No, but even if that was the case why do people think you should chuck up another 250 for him and his wife?) It was awkward, but hopefully he just doesn't bring it up again. We like him, but we don't know him that well. Plus we've worked hard with dance lessons, I don't want him stealing the show!

ughh soo annoying when people assume they will be invited. Just because I work with you and are 'friends' at work doesnt mean you are invited... might be ackward after the wedding, but hopefully they will understand that you cant invite everybody

I'm kind of blunt. I just said no!

Though we are now having RSVPs coming back with extra guests

People have nerve!

I would just say what you already said. Hurt feelings or not, this is coming out of your pocket.

Re: People who invite themselves to the wedding

Thanks for all the responses everyone!!! FH got a text last night which prompted him to write on here. He will be so excited to read everyone's advice and opinions.

I am seriously SHOCKED that ANYONE would have the nerve to straight out ask to be invited anywhere, nevermind a wedding. It is so F-ing rude!!!

People really don't understand that :

A. The cost is INSANE!
B. Budgets have already been set for a certain amount of people
C. We would like to keep our wedding intimate with people we actually interact with and our families!!!
D. Our hall can only accommodate a certain amount of guests!!

I hope nobody else wanders out of the woodworks!

I've had this....actually to the point where I had someone ask if they were IN the wedding HAHAHA. Try talking urself outta that one!

I've had people randomly send their address to the house with a few really old of FH and them. And people getting annoyed at other people that are invited asking why they got an invite and x person didn't

Really people!!

Re: People who invite themselves to the wedding

I really haven't had that issue of people who were not invited assume that they would be, but I have had the issue of my mom and FMIL always trying to add to the list. I did have people at work (the onyl 2 who were invited) ask me who at work was invited and I said I'd love to invite more people, but because of the costs I have to limit it and was only able to invite very few people.
