I think the cashiers at my fulltime job start out at min. wage but the ones who have experience came in at around 8.50ish or more. Supermarkets I think tend to pay more for cashiers- I think most are Union. Walmart pays terribly better off working fast food.

I took a part time cashier job like 7 yrs ago when I needed to make ends meet. I was geting paid like $12/hr. I only needed it for a few months until I got my raise. Depending on what you're making now, it may not be not worth it. I was giving up my social life for $12/hr.
Ask your current boss if you can get some overtime if there is any.
