Personal Question

Just want to let you know that I'm not originally from NY but I've been living here a few years. I'm not too familar with Reception Halls in LI or the City. I did a search on a thread on Wedding Budgets. Could you guys tell me what your wedding budget is and where your reception will be held? And the time of year? YOu can send me an email if you don't want to post it on the board. Thanks alot gals.

Re: Personal Question

I got alot of really great deals, so I am probably not the norm, I am paying $16K for everything except for the rings & homeymoon. I am having my wedding on a Friday Night in the beginning of January. (I was originaly budgeted for less, but we splurged on a couple of things.) I also left out alot of things that most people do, like centerpieces and extra favors & such. I am also not having seat covers or bows on my chairs & stuff like that.

Re: Personal Question

JuJu - I am getting married three week before you & I gotta tell ya... being a winter bride has its advantages....it is easier to bargain for pricing an for extras, as well as lowering minimum guarantees for the halls & such. You could do it for less than $30K if you do a little research & get some great advice (like from LIW girls ) Also, I would have saved about $800 on my dress had I looked for it in more than one shop. I saw it in David's the next day for almost 1/2 the price!

ETA- sorry I just noticed the note on your profile that says you have not yet set a date

Re: Personal Question

Thanks, We are changing our date to FEb 6 or Feb 7. Yes, I've heard that winter brides can get a great deal. We are looking at our first place tomorrow in Brooklyn. So I am excited!

Re: Personal Question

Where are you looking in Brooklyn, just curious...I live there! And yes, you can def. do a wedding for 30K. Our budget with honeymoon is 40K (7-8K for honeymoon), and we're doing fine. We're having an afternoon wedding with about 100 guests. I even splurged on a $3500 dress and we're still on target. Our budget was originally 25K, but we found that wasn't going to work for what we wanted, so we pushed it up. You'll be fine. We are skimping on some things though, but splurging on others..i.e. no videographer and my FH's mom is our officiant (no fee of course:).

Re: Personal Question

Julybride,

I'm looking at Giando's on the Water. Have you heard of it? Is it nice? 1/2 my guest are from out of town and would most likely stay in the city. So I figured it would be nice to have a wedding in manhattan or brooklyn. If it is too expensive, then I'll start looking on the Island.

That's great about your mom's friend. Every little bit of saving helps! MY FH's stepmother's best friend does invitations and she said she would be honored to do our invites. (now, I'm not sure if she meant for free or at Whole sale cost) LOL I guess I'll get clarification as the date gets closer.

I haven't done the dress shopping yet! I can't wait! I'm going to TX this week (my parents live there) and I want my mom to be the first one to see me try on dresses. Chances are I probably won't buy down there. But, I have heard that dresses are so inexpensive down there. We'll see. If that is the case, then I have someone here who does alterations.

Re: Personal Question

Our budget is $60k
(not including my gown, honeymoon airfare/car rentals, e-ring, or little extras that I purchase here & there for the reception.)

We're having a Saturday night wedding in September at the Bourne Mansion and we're expecting 150 guests (inviting 170). (FH was able to negotiate a really great per head price for the location.)

Re: Personal Question

We were bad- we didn't have an exact budget. We are spending what I predicted when we first got engaged around 37k but we never had a set budget. We went with prices of things that we felt comfortble with. Once we knew that we had saved enough to cover the reception nothing phased us after that.

However we did luck out with some things. A very good family friend is marrying us. My florist is local not a big wedding florist and is a little cheaper because we are, actually FI is a good customer.

Favors, we wound up meeting Carol Ann at a craft fair and I fell in love with her work. They are a little more than I wanted to spend but soooo worth in IMO. Invitations, I thought the woman had quoted us one price and it wound up being a couple hundred less than I had remember and saved for so with that we a mint boxes as extras.

Dress was a lot less than I had budget and then with all the problems that the salon caused me it really became A LOT less than I had budgeted for. So we saved there.

If you really have your eyes open you can get great deals on things.

Good luck!!
