Personal trainers to get in 'wedding shape'?

Personal trainers to get in 'wedding shape'?

I'm finally ready to head back to the gym after my knee/ankle surgeries and I was thinking about hiring a personal trainer to help me out--both to keep me motivated and to keep me from reinjuring myself.

I was wondering for those of you who've hired trainers, what kind of success you've had and how long it took you to lose weight? I wouldn't mind losing 20-30 lbs by July

Also, if you can recommend a specific trainer at the NYSC either in midtown east or the Garden City area, I'd appreciate that too.

Thanks!

I haven't set it up yet, but I am going to do Buff Brides at NYSC during May, June and July....

I have not done anything yet but I plan to. My friends have worked out with trainers and really felt that they got their money's worth. I intend to work out with a trainer a couple of times to get a good routine established.

Buff Brides seems like a good program. And you may even get on TV!

FH got me a gift certificate for 4 personal training sessions for Christmas (it's ok - I asked him for it ). Anyway, it really depends on a) who you get as a trainer and b) whether or not you yourself have motivation. I think they're great to show you how to do specific exercises and to help you start out on a regimen. However, unless you're hiring Jessica Simpson's trainer or something, I think that you can motivate yourself as well, if not better, than most trainers. My guy is very nice but when I told him that I wanted to tone my arms, etc for the wedding (when he asked about my goals) he said his sister's doing the same for her wedding right now but he doesn't understand since we both 'look fine' to him. Obviously none of us wants to look 'fine' on our wedding day and it disturbed me that this was how he was reacting. But, after consulting a number of people, this is the norm. If you're lucky enough to get a great trainer, then it's worth a one-two times/week visit.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll see how I like the free trainer (the one they give you for one hour) and if I'm not thrilled, I'll try one at another location. Thanks!

I have a trainer and I love him. I first started with him a couple of years ago and saw great results within the first 3 months. I've used him on and off since. He's at the NYSC on 41st and 3rd. FM me if you'd like his info!

I really agree that it depends on the trainer you hire. As a trainer myself, I know that we run the gamut in terms of skill, knowledge and ability to motivate. I think finding someone who understands your goals and who you 'click' with personality-wise, is extremely important. I tell people when they begin a new gym, to ask around about the trainers, from other people who work out there (not from the staff). Plus, when you're there working out, follow some trainers around while they are with clients.... without being obvious of course!! The best ones and/or someone you feel you'd like to work with, will become obvious pretty quickley.

Feel free to FM if you have any questions!
