Pet Shelters-Adoption?

Need listings of Adoption shelters for a dog in NYC AREA.

DH is driving me crazy, he keeps taking me to shake a Paw in LI. Showing me a daschund. I already have a female beagle who just turn 2. We feel she needs a bf. I don't know what to do. I would preety much rather adopt. We don't have our own home, yet. But, we can't wait, to give tic tac a friend, she has been looking so lonely these past few weeks.

Please, please don't buy from a pet store!!

Bring your dog with you. It is much easier when they meet on neutral turf!! Good luck.

Thanks Regi

I am desperately looking at the shelters. Lets see what will happen. I can wait for the pet, but when I look at my beagle, she looks more depressing. I just want to stop my DH before he makes a mistake and go to the pet store. If I can help it.

I will keep you girls posted, if there is anything new awaiting for me at home or not.

I hope not!!!!!!!

Have you looked on www.petfinder.com. They list all the shelther and you can search by breed. I hope this helps.

Thanks Shamrock,

I will do that. Dh, is home, without the new pet, he did however go and look. I told him, we can always do the shelter adoption. So, I am reading up on the different breeds, between the Chihuhua or Daschund

Re: Pet Shelters-Adoption?

My MIL has a beagle and she gets along with all the other dogs, including my JRT, a Daschund and anyone else she runs into. I don't know that much about either breed though. I think it really depends on the dogs. But like the other poster said, please don't buy from a pet store. They are usually puppy mill dogs and have a great tendency to have health problems and defects.

Re: Pet Shelters-Adoption?

i totally recomend a chihuahua but please do NOT get from a pet shop...
and please know that there is no such thing as a mini chihuahua or teacup, etc etc.

if you want a good chihauhua breeder let me know i will help you out.

try ChiWantOne . Sassyz got both her chihuahuas from her and they are i believe 4 lbs fully grown. her pups come paper trained, microchipped, etc
