Has anyone taken their dog or cat to Petco for vaccinations or a deworming??? If so, how does it work and is it good. It seems so much cheaper than the vet.

Re: Petco...
i have.
They have schedules. We took Buddy there (our cat). If you have your records, take them with you.
We forgot ours, they still vaccinated him but warned they would not again until we could prove he had his rabies shot. Mind you this was only because we told the vet that Buddy was a North Shore Animal Adoption and only about 2 years out so it was pretty sure that the cat had its shots.
It was pretty fast actually only a few dogs in front of us. Compared to the vet? OH GOD was it CHEAPER. And a whole lot more easier on our time schedules.
Still I want to take Buddy to see a vet for a true Physical.
Petco just gives the shot.

Ditto...much quicker musch faster and they give you the heartworm results a few days later & then mail you a coupon to buy the meds (if they still do that).
Def bring as much paperwork as you can though, and try to get there at a decent hour or you may wait on line a little bit.
ETA: Go to Petco.com for the schedules of the vaccinations clinics at the local stores

It is cheaper, but they do have a reputation for 'missing' things that might be wrong with your pet. If you can afford it it's better to go to the vet and get them a real examination.

Re: Petco...
Since this topic is still fresh..
I am DEFINATELY going back to Petco next year.
Tomorrow we have an appt for Buddy (a cat mind you) with a reputable vet. Great, I’m all for that, it’s time he goes in. Been years and all, but I just got the ‘quote’ if you will, from the vet for tomorrow’s little ‘visit’.
$150-$200!!!!!!
May I also remind you this is an INDOOR cat? Not like it goes outside, ever. Heck he’s terrified of the outdoors. Only likes to look out the windows. No need in HELL for a vet visit to be $200 for an indoor cat.
Therefore if you think I’m up to doing this sorta thing every year? No way. I think from now on unless his rabies shot is due (or unless I feel he’s not doing well) he’s NOT seeing a vet!! A few times lately I’ve wanted to take him in. I’m not picky if it’s gonna help him live longer and healthier but just paying extra for ordinary shots I can get at Petco? Nah, I’ll save myself the trouble.
The Office visit at the vet is $67, I better have a better reason to bring him in than just shots!
*hops off soap box and gets ready to pay out tomorrow, all for the love of a cat*

Xelindry -- which vet gave you that quote? I'm just curious because I thought you were looking for a vet in the Huntington area and so am I. FM if you don't feel comfortable posting it.
