Petite Brides
Hi ladies...have any other short brides had trouble finding a wedding dress? I am 5'0 and was looking for a fit n flare or mermaid style but most designers don't make the dress to fit proportion for shorter brides. The dress I love is by Allure and they make the dress hollow to hem. Does anyone have experience with ordering a dress hollow to hem and did you need any additional alterations after?

I ordered a Maggie Sottero and it was ordered 5 inches shorter (I'm 5'2) - my salon said that I still have 3 inches that I could either wear heels or would have to alter at that point. Some designers have a petite version and some don't. I would talk it over with your salon before you order it to make sure you're on the same page with what you'll need done, how high your heels will be, etc.

I am a petite bride as well and even though I decided to get a custom made dress, during my initial search I learned that David's bridal and BHLDN carry petite sizes.

You should ask if the alterations department would be willing to take the bottom off the dress and lift it up to be more proportionate with your height. It may cost a pretty penny, but that's really the only way to alter it to fit a smaller frame like that unless you find a designer you like that carries petites.

Hi!I'm 5'0 as well. I struggled with fit and flare because the fit would come down too low below my hips to look right. I did find my dress though, it's a fit and flare but with a bit more of a traditional a-line. It can be ordered hollow to hem, which was explained to me that they make the dress' torso shorter instead of just hemming the bottom. My dress is tulle on the bottom, so they can just hem it traditionally and it will work fine. Good luck! I think your best bet is to just keep trying on and with a good attendant! Also, find a good tailor. :)

Re: Petite Brides
I didn't buy a petite dress, although I normally only buy petite clothing...I'm also 5'0. I'm attaching a pic of my dress...the flare hits me at the knee. Max Bridal (highly recommend) reassured me that their seamstress can alter it (at the knee so I don't lose the detail at the hem).I didn't want to limit my dress selections with just looking for petite dresses.
My dress is probably at least 6-8 inches too long. I'm honestly not worried.

I am 4'11 and 110 pounds. I actually found that an A-Line ballgown (unsure what it is really called) looked GREAT on my shape and size and actually made me appear a lot taller! Let me know if you want a picture! Mermaid and straight A-Line just gave me NO shape at all!Welcome New Vendors
