Pets on airplanes...UPDATE

Original post by yabbobay

I used to work for an airline...but that was 7 years ago (YIKES...getting old...can't believe that was so long ago)

and after new security procedures...I thought i'd ask you guys...

what are the restrictions for pets IN CABIN? cats or dogs? is there a weight/size limit?

anyone put their animal in cargo? how safe would that be in April? while I put animals in cargo (at least I entered them in the computer) I never paid attention to them at the other end...but I never heard anything bad either..

what are your opinions?

I spoke to FI, he said do not put him in cargo because he sees how they treat the luggage.

Tell them the dog is 19 inches. He said are they really going to pull out a tape measure and measure the pooch.

he said to try and get him with you in the cabin

I'd be more than happy to try to get him in the cabin...but he has to be able to stand in the carrier...and the carrier has to fit under the seat...

I am sorry. I tried...I dont know what else to tell you to do.

FI tells me how they treat the luggage and I wouldnt suggest a doggie going with the luggage.

I hope it works out

Re: Pets on airplanes...

thanks for all your help...I think he is going to go in cargo...

I hope that Delta is good to their pets...as some people have mentioned...

I owuld try to sneak him into the cabin...but I am nervous that they would tell me at the last minute that I couldn't and I wouldn't have his kennel ready for him...and since people can't come to the gate with you...I couldn't have it on stand by....

my poor baby...but at least theres not changing planes...

let me know what day, time, terminal and airport this is. My Fi is TSA in JFK and if he is in your terminal the day of your flight I'll make sure he watches over the Delta people and that your doggie is safe.

I think it depends on the time of the year. It gets cold down there in the winter, and the summer I would NEVER. My sister puts her cat under her seat when she comes up to visit. He is a check in bag

Erica, I still think that either you have to give the dog to me, or you can't go. I would love to take your dog, but I think it would be better if you just stayed in New York. If you want to, you can move to Bohemia, instead!!!!!!

And also, didn't I ban all California talk!!!!

Re: Pets on airplanes...

FYI:

SO I made it with the puppy(well hes still apuppy in my mind) and everything is OK...

the people at Delta were super nice...adn they put up with my crying and whining and doggie talk when they were taking him away...

I freaked out at the last minute - and put a sweater on him...even though its temperature control...he gets cold very easily...but when he came out...he was warm...

Delta had this sticker they put on his crate...and then when he was loaded...they gave me a card that says 'Hi. I'm on board too!' It was too cute...

the flight was smooth...so I think he was ok...I lined the crate with a wee-wee pad...and there was a TINY pee spot when he got out...and I was sure that he would have had diaherra from being nervous...but nope!! not a drop...but when he got out of the crate...he peed everywhere...he was so excited!!!

the hardest part was letting him go...I couldn't tell him that it would be over in a few hours...and he looked at me like I was sending him off to the slaughter house!! <--just like that!!

but I was very happy with Delta...and I am planning on bringing him at Christmas time back to NY...I think its better than a kennel...and may even be cheaper!!
