PG myth or fact: No heavy lifting?

PG myth or fact: No heavy lifting?

I told a few of the other teachers at my preschool that I was PG and some of the BTDT moms had said that I should not be picking up the 2 year olds, especially the heavier ones....

my SIL says its' BS because she would pick up her 4 year old son when she was PG with #2

HELP! If I can't be in that room due to physical strain, I need to let them know so they can move me

You have to be careful what you lift! I was told no more than 20 pounds and to lift with the knees. I know my friend of course was still lifting her 2 year old while preggo with her son but try to do as little as possible.

I was just told if you didn't lift that weight before don't start now.

I think about what your SIL said that she might feel differently because it was her own child. If it's a child you don't know from work that may be a kicker or a fighter I would stay far away.

The myth or fact my mom is all about is stretching to reach or grab things, I don't know if it is true or not.

My 26lbs 2 year old would FREAK if I didnt pick her up. There is no way around it. Granted I cant hold her for long because she doesnt really get her legs around my waist anymore. My DD is the only heavy thing I do lift though. My DH moves all heavy or even semi heavy items for me now. When in doubt have someone else do it!!! You dont want to split your stomach muscles...

Well, I can understand lifting your OWN child...but I lift 20 kids a day when they are upset, to change diapers, to put them in time out....it's constant. That's why I'm worried

Just bend at your knees. Maybe hold them by their hand if possible. When you get too big stop lifting them and have someone else do it?

I was told the same thing about not lifting more then you were use to before. If you're body is use to you lifting that much then you should be fine. Do what feels right for your body.

They tell you not to lift anything heavy with your first baby. But my friend said she can lift her little two year old son while she is pregnant with #2 because she is used to it and does it all the time.
If this is your first, I wouldn't.

I work in Day Care and I lifted just as many kids as I did before I was preggo. I would not worry if you already do it everyday. It may get harder as you are farther along, but I assume you have a co-teacher/assistant in your room who if worse comes to worse could lift the child and then you could change them.

I am the assistant and I would LOVE for my DR to tell me that I shouldn't be in that room...the lead teacher is just a witch.....she doesn't follow the curriculum, doesn't let me and the other assistant help at all and we offer and she just went off to the director to complain we didn't clean the room good enough but never confronted us about it, which I would have preferred

Ugh sounds like a nightmare. I never let my head teachers complain to me without trying to work it out with in the classroom first.

Well I say it's the perfect opportunity to have your room switched I bet if you asked you OB they would write you a note. I would say the stress of working with someone like that is worse than the heavy lifting

Good Luck

Oh my God btrflygrl i haven't been on here in a long time! Congratulations! I am so happy for you!

I would just be careful with picking things up. You know what you should and shouldn't do.

I was lifting boxes and began spotting in my first month. Doctor said she felt that that's what triggered it. Be careful!
