photo location dilemma

photo location dilemma

My wedding is in January 2009. Due to time problems we have to take pictures before the ceremony otherwise we'll miss our entire cocktail hour.

The weather on LI has been very mild the past few years in January. If we are lucky and end up with a beautiful mild day, then outdoor pictures will not be any problem.

If the weather turns bad or freezing temps, though, we need an alternate indoor location, as my house is too small. I tried the Holtsville Ecology site, but they will still be having their Holiday light show & family photos with Santa going on, so they wouldn't let us reserve any time in the greenhouse. Bayard Aboretum only has outdoor locations. The reception is only at 7:30 and the hall won't allow us to come as early as 3-4pm for indoor photos.

We are in eastern suffolk, Port Jeff area, and don't want to travel far. Any other suggestions for indoor locations??? Even if we have to pay a small rental fee for an hour or two.

Thanks!!

Re: photo location dilemma

We are getting married in March so I am expecting we will have cold weather too. Our venue is allowing us to arrive at 5:30pm-6pm for a 7:30pm ceremony. To be honest if it is too cold out we are going to just take our indoor photos at our venue.

Your other option could be a hotel you like on LI???

I know Westbury Gardens and Sands Point Preserve all have indoor rooms for photos. I'm not sure how Sands Point is but I know Westbury Gardns have nice rooms.

Their web site doesn't say whether indoor photos are allowed, but if you're looking for a Suffolk County location, it may be worth checkin out the Vanderbilt Museum in Centerport.

Those are all great ideas, but too far. I'm out at exit 64 on the LIE. I don't want to have to drive and hour there and an hour back.

Thanks! Keep the suggestions coming!

RE: Holtsville Ecology Site
I don't know if they have a spot for outdoor photos, I just know they have a greenhouse and you need to reserve it for indoor photos. But due to their holiday light show & family photos you can't get it during the holidays. Not sure when it starts, but it runs through Jan 4th. Go onto Brookhaven Town's website for their phone number.

Try Vanderbuilt Museum/Mansion. or Planting Fields Arboretum. I am going to check both out this weekend.

PFA has a greenhouse, but nothing in doors.

Vanderbuilt obviously has many rooms you can use , and I think you can also use outdoors if you want to. I would give them both a shot.
