Photo Montage?

Photo Montage?

How many of you are doing/did this? If so, at what point will/did you show it? Will/did it play continuously or just once? Have you seen this at weddings many times before? Do you like it? Tell me how you really feel about it!

And if you are having/had it do you mind sharing how much it cost? (FM if you prefer).

Thanks.

Re: Photo Montage?

DO YOU MEAN ON THE VIDEO SCREEN DURING THE WEDDING OR ON YOUR WEDDING VIDEO?

I LIKE BOTH.

Re: Photo Montage?

You asked for us to tell you how we really feel about it, so here goes:

I do not like the photo montages that are done at the wedding. I think that its somewhat self-indulgent, and not much fun for the majority of your guests.

I think it is a nice addition to a personal video though, so that you and your closest friends/family can enjoy them.

Just my opinion though, I'm sure there are just as many people out there who love them.

Elit497: I was referring to the video screen at the reception site. Sorry for the confusion.

Valenia: Thanks for the input, that's what I want: total honesty! I can see your point about self indulgence, but I was planning to incorporate pics of our friends, family parties, Christmas Eve when the cousins were all litte etc. That type of thing. Also, my FH husband's mom passed away a couple of years ago so I though pics of his paren't wedding and of him and his mom etc. would be a nice touch. I wouldn't do just a montage of me and FH, that would be embarassing.

Edited to add: I would probably have it off to the side somewhere and it would run continuously so guests could view it if they wanted or ignore it if they wanted.

LOL OMG imagine a montage of just pics of you and your FI. If I went to a wedding that had 80 pictures being displayed through out the reception of the bride and groom.... it would be similar to having those two huge portraits of the bride and groom behind the dias like in 'Old School'

Re: Photo Montage?

I like your idea of having it run continuously off to the side -- so that people can view the photos if/when they'd like.

FYI -- What I did at my wedding, and I've seen other people do as well, is that out in the lobby as people arrive and wait for the ceremony there were framed photos of our families and a few of us (like our prom photo for laughs, all no bigger then 5x7). These included wedding portraits of our parents and grandparents, and were labeled with the names and dates so that our guests had a clue about who was who. Just another possibility to consider.

Re: Photo Montage?

Thats a good point about labeling the pictures. I was planning on doing that as well but didn't even think of labeling who was who.

LOL Beth,
I thought of the Old School thing as well. Maybe we should go get headshots!

I am putting out all wedding pictures of my paretns, FH's parents, grandparents and great grandparents. I actually never thought to label them though, thanks for the idea!

I also do not like the whole 'video screen' idea at a wedding reception. I think it is perfect for a Sweet 16 or other children's party. I think it is very self-indulgent and honestly would not find it fun to watch one at a wedding.
Instead you can put a few photos on the placecard table. That is sweet and not over-the-top.

I feel the same way- I've seen it done and I thought it wasn't very 'wedding like'- I did the same thing with the photos of us at various moments in our lives though- that was a nice touch.

I think it is a nice touch if you make it short and interesting. I opted not to have it because we did not have it in our budget. I think I may consider putting together a little album on our placecard table.

Re: Photo Montage?

I was going to do this during the reception.. my hall has a movie screen that can come down and they were going to do it during dinner..

FH and I don't want to break up the whole momentum of the wedding excitement so we opted to not do this and instead just do it for the video..

Re: Photo Montage?

Hi all,
Thanks for your input. I just want to clarify that I would not have the screen in the center of the dance floor or make any kind of show of it, I would keep it in a corner of the room or off to the side somewhere so that people could watch it (or not) at their leisure. I know it can be done as a 'special presentation' with music to go along with etc., but I would prefer to just let it run continuously somewhere out of the way.

Re: Photo Montage?

Hi!! I have to say I DISAGREE! We are having the montage on a screen and I couldn't be more excited about it.

We will be having approx 3 minutes before we are announced (10 of me younger, 10 of FH and 10 together) approx 3 minutes long.

Then during dinner there will be approx 30 more pics (3 minutes) of us with our families and friends.

FHs father and my grandmother and grandfather (whom I was very close to) died and they will all be in the montage. This will make them alive in our day.

I used to work for a caterer that had screens come down from the ceiling. I would watch these montages of other peoples lives and actually get tears in my eyes.

My roommate was at a wedding recenlty and they had the screen and my roommate RAVED about it!!

IMO if they don't want to watch 2 3 minute clips they don't have to. As long as it isn't too long I think it's a great addition to the joining of two lives

Re: Photo Montage?

I actually saw one at a bar a few weeks ago where half the bar was split and there was a 30th birthday party. The screen came down and they did a photo montage and my FI and I couldn't take our eyes off it! We didn't even know the person, but you could just see the memories that went along with the photos (we esp. enjoyed the 80's pics). The whole bar was watching it and laughing together. It was really cute.

Re: Photo Montage?

i'm with betty on this one!!! i hadn't even heard of the photo montage until my GF did it at her wedding last summer! i loved every second of it!!!! i'm including pics of myself and my grandmother who is so sick, she definitely won't be at the wedding. i also have a great shot of myself with my FMIL and FSIL that i was going to use to end my 'growing up' pics. i think it's a great idea!!!
