How many of you are doing/did this? If so, at what point will/did you show it? Will/did it play continuously or just once? Have you seen this at weddings many times before? Do you like it? Tell me how you really feel about it!
And if you are having/had it do you mind sharing how much it cost? (FM if you prefer).
Thanks.

Re: Photo Montage?
Hi! Just wanted to say that I'm having it also and am very excited!! after the 3 minutes of us, the screen will be off to the side and pictures from guests at the cocktail hour will be displayed, and when we have the first dance and cake cutting etc. it will be on the screen!!! everybody can't always get close enough to see everything, so i think its a great idea!!

Re: Photo Montage?
i'm doing it as part of the program. it'll have pictures of us as babies and then us growing up, til we meet (including some family pics). i think as long as its not too long people will love it - especially if it's a tear jerker. i saw it at the last wedding i went to (the bride's sister made it) and half the people were in tears.
during the cocktail hour i'm also going to have a powerpoint of love quotes playing in the background.

Re: Photo Montage?
I am also having a photo montage done at the reception. My GF did one at her wedding and it went over really well. We are also having the zap photos of the guests shown throughout the night so that it is not just pictures of the two of us. We aren't sure if we are going to do a 'special' presentation or have it run throughout the night. Good luck with your decision.

Re: Photo Montage?
I had one, and it was phenomenal. I loved it! We started out with a few baby pics of each of us, and then us with various family and friends growing up, and then like 4 or 5 of us from the weekend we got engaged. Music by Michael did an AWESOME job. I have my whole montage on CD, we still watch it! He has a great screen with rear projection, it was off to the side. It started playing when the first course was being served. It then replayed at different times throughout the night. it wasn't the center of attention, but it was there if anyone wanted to look at it. when I danced with my dad, there was a pic of me as a little girl with him holding me, it was quite the tear jerker! And same for DH and his mom. I loved my montage!

Re: Photo Montage?
I love the idea of some sort of photo montage like a mini slide show to the side was what I wanted to do but i am not sure how to do it and the prices these DJs charge is outrageous!!
A wedding I went to they had the big screen up in the middle and I found it to be so distracting, they also had snapshots of people during the wedding which i have to say werent very flattering so i spent the whole evening being paranoid I would end up on the screen looking silly.

Re: Photo Montage?
I don't like it because it takes the attention away from alot. Guests are always looking at that rather than the bride & groom, dancing etc.
It would really depend when you did it, if it was during dinner then I'd like it, any other time no.

Re: Photo Montage?
it really wasn't distracting. speaking as someone that had one-it was in one corner of the room, the guests basically watched in during salad, and then it ran again during dinner and dancing later. there was no attention called to it, so it was just there if someone wanted to look - and Music by Michael, who is an awesome DJ as well, was WAY more affordable than any of the other DJs whom I had asked about a photo montage, actually that was really the reason why I called him initially. If you want to see what his screen looks like, go to his web page www.musicbymichael.com and click on photo montage, I think it's near the bottom. good luck!

Re: Photo Montage?
I have seen this at just the cocktail hour, running pcitures of love ones, cousins, friends and the bride and groom. I was also at a wedding recently that had the big screen running pictures of the evening as it progress at the reception. I think it can be a distraction, but it also depends on the size of your wedding and the size of the room. If you have over 200 people and it is hard for some of the guests on one side of the room to see what is going on half of the night, I think that this is a good idea. However, if you have a smaller wedding, I feel it is just not neccesary, and it will take away the elegant of your room. If you decide to do it, I think running just at the cocktail hour is a nice touch. This way, while people are just mingling they can chose to stop and watch it, instead of being forced to.

Re: Photo Montage?
We're also doing a photo montage. Believe it or not, FH wanted to do it and had to talk me into it. We'll probably do this during the dinner.

I love the idea. If you are not in the immediate family you will not have the opportunity to see what the wedding pictures will look like. This gives the guest a great opportunity to view the pictures. It enables you to fill in the entire story of the couple. Go for it and have fun!

Re: Photo Montage?
My cousin had this at his wedding. Unfotunately, his father (my uncle) was in the hospital due to a heart attack. So it was great that he could be there in spirit through pictures. But honestly, after that moment no one paid any attention to it.

Re: Photo Montage?
I like it, but we didn't get it b/c FH said it's not for a wedding. Plus, when we went to our DJ he said that it wouldn't really work at Floral Terrace and that we would have to use TV screens instead of the Screen and I didn't want to do that.
If you like it, I say go for it!

Re: Photo Montage?
Our photographer set up a small tv around 13' right by the place cards during the cocktails hour and the pictures just flashed up with no sound. I cannot tell you how many compliments I got on that. I was really against it at first, thought it would be cheesy. But no joke, the day of the wedding I sat for a few minutes and watched the pictures go by. After the cocktail hour, he put it away. Everyone thought it was a nice simple touch.

Re: Photo Montage?
Here I am, selfish, self centered me, who had not 1, but 2 tremendous screens on either side of my dance floor. For the majority of my reception, the screens showed pictures taken AT my reception of my guests enjoying themselves. Everyone seemed to like this, because they were posing every time they saw the digital photographer on the dance floor. My 85 year old grandmother who couldn't get up from her seat enjoyed it the most, because she got to see things that she otherwise would have missed.
At dinner, and again late in the evening, there was a 2 minute photo montage of Patrick and me growing up, and our dating and engagement pictures. It was a huge hit, expecially the picture of Patrick in uniform, which got a standing ovation.
So, am I cheesy and 'Old School'. I guess so. Did this take away anything from the 'flow' of my reception? Not a bit. In fact, it added to it. Do I recommend others do this if it's what they want? Absoultely!!!
