Photo viewing software

What kind of software to view your photos in your computer? I'm looking for one that can compress photos without having to open them individually -- still sorting through thousands of pictures from wedding and sharing them is a total pain!!! have to compress first ... etc. etc.

there's gotta be a better way to do this!!!
