Photog meetings - confused!

Photog meetings - confused!

Hi girls,

So I met with 2 different photogs this weekend in hopes of finding the one! But I am a little confused over what to do - here's what happened.

Company A -
There aren't many reviews of this place, but it's a reputable place recommended by several RHs, and seem to do good work.

The guy we met with was nice, but talked A LOT. He went on and on about how photographing a wedding is about capturing the moment, the love etc. It's not that I don't appreciate that, but he talked about it too much (we were there for at least an hour and 15 minutes). In the end, they are too expensive for us.

Company B -
There are a LOT of great reviews on this place, and they seem to do great work. I went to the appointment thinking that it would seal the deal (I knew that they were within our budget). But when we met with them, it was like, 'Hi, you can look through these albums. Here's our packages. Any questions?' The whole thing took under 10 minutes.

FH was VERY turned off by the meeting and wants to talk to other photogs. I'm bummed because I thought we'd be going with Company B.

Has this happened to anyone else? Where your initial experience was a little iffy but you went with them anyway and were thrilled with them? I don't want to name names (FM me if you're interested), but I'm so confused as to what to do now...

TIA!

I have a feeling I know who company B is and my mom was a little taken aback by the impersonality (is that a word? lol) of it, but for the work that they produce and the price, I'm glad we booked with them. It depends on you though, are you the type of person who is going to want to call and personally talk to your photog 10x between now and the wedding? Or are you the type to trust in their work and let them do their own thing with minimal interference? If you really need that personal relationship, I'd keep looking. If not, their work is amazing and I know you'd be satisfied with the result. Good luck!! If you want to talk anymore, please feel free to FM me!

I'm not sure what companies you spoke with but if you didn't love either one of them I would keep looking. Remember that you are going to be spending the WHOLE day with these people and they are responsible for your wedding pics. FH and I met with 2 companies, we LOVED both of them but went with the lesser expensive one. The two I saw were Thomas Paul and Imagine. They were both fantastic people and their pictures are amazing!!!!

If a company doesn't have time for me.. I dont have time for them.

I have seen my photographers in action and they do amazing work..

They really want to capture the moment and details.. and spend a lot of time with you!

As soon as you get that iffy feeling I wouldn't go with them. Follow your instincts because there is a reason your feeling that way. Go with someone you can completely trust, who wows you, and who you are comfortable with, and can communicate well with especially since you will be with them all day.

I wonder if your company b was the same one we met with and were turned off by the same thing. But if you don't feel comfortable, keep looking. FM me if you would like any info on the photogs we met.

If I think its the company I am thinking about remember those are NOT your photographers. They are just showing their work and what they offer. If you like their work and you are all into the artist(since thats what they are) to do their work then go for it.

I think I know who Company B is and, if so, we were turned off by them for the same reason. I didn't really like the fact that we couldn't actually sit down with a photographer and see whether or not we clicked with them. If you don't feel comfortable, keep looking!

I have a feeling I know exactly who company B is..we felt exactly the same way. When we were driving home we I kept saying 'i don't get it...'

Anyway, I still felt nervous about dismissing them because of all the good reviews...until I met with the photog we booked with...

There are absolutely no reviews on him here, but at the end of the day I knew I loved his work and I think just as importantly liked him (they are going to be around you for a lot of the day) and felt that he really 'got' what I wanted...

go with you gut...

Re: Photog meetings - confused!

I think I know the feeling for both companies you went to. We had those exact experiences. Experience 'A' sounds like a solo guy (or husband and wife team) who needs the business. Company 'B' sounds like a factory.

You want to meet with more people and you want to meet with someone who will sit down and take the time to get to know what YOU want for your day. I met with about 7 photography companies before I chose mine -- which is MEMENTO PHOTOGRAPHY -- and I was confident that after meeting with them, that they were the one to shoot my wedding.

The photographer that talked too much, don't bother cuz you did not click with him. The factory.....you won't know who you are getting unless you request someone and meet them first.

FM me if you want details on the photographers I saw and pricing if you would like. That will help you know who to make appt's with.

I think I know who Company B is and we had the same reaction. All four photog's we saw produce the same quality of work, so in the end we went with who we felt we clicked with better- when we walked out of our appt. with him we knew deep down he was who we were going with, but went forward with the other appts just to make sure we got a few different perspectives, packages, and prices.

FM me if you want any details on the four we met with- Thomas Paul, ADA, 12th Night and Duet.

I dont know if company B is duet but we pretty much had a short meeting with them too, but we took our time looking through the albums and discussing the packages a bit before coming out with a price we liked. I would say we were there for about 20 minutes which included time to book them.

If company B is a company where you met with someone that is not your ACTUAL photog, then you have to take that into consideration.
You really have to love your photog. they will be with you the ENTIRE day! if they are snotty, or have the personality of a wet rag, or turn your off in general, you might want to look elsewhere. it might be worth looking elsewhere... I am sure that's not what you wanted to hear though. sorry!
