I just noticed on my photography contract that the photographer built in a tip to himself and the assistant. I understand the assistant, but he is the proprietor. I'm a little put off by that. Should I call him on it?

Re: Photographer built in tip to himself
i think it's weird that your guy put the tip right in the contract, but i think it's something that needs to be done regardless.
you're always supposed to tip the photographer as well as their assistants .... i'll be giving my 2 photographers $100 each on the wedding day.
of course, if your guy gave himself a ridiculously high tip, then you should def be mad and call him out on it

I actually would have tipped him more, but I'm a little annoyed. More so at myself for not noticing!

haha, i understand ... but look on the bright side - you get to save some money since, as you said, you would've tipped him more otherwise

I think that's a little strange. I don't actually plan to tip my photographer, since he;s the owner.

I've never heard of that. If it's less than you would have given though then leave it alone. He asked for it.
That's like benig a waitress and adding the tip to a check. You *could* make money if you gamble and think the customer will do right by you. If you put it on you know what you are guarenteed

Now you paid for that up front and you have one less thing to worry about / save for on your wedding day!

I would definitely ask him about it. A tip is a token for a job well done, it should not be expected.

I think that's very arrogant, personally...I would ask him why since most ppl tip their photog on the day of the wedding anyway?!

I have no intention of tipping the photographer..he is the owner and sole proprietor of his business..he gets all the money anyway.

Thats not necessarily true. People think that of hairdressers too, and I hate that.. He still has overhead. If he has an assistant, he still has to pay him. Mines coming with another photog and an assistant and I wouldnt assume hes getting it all. He still needs topay those guys, cover the lab, album company and anything else he has to produce. Like someone said before, its a token of a job well done and appreciation for their service. Owner deserves the same respect

Yep...strange but I have to agree. Since he insists on adding it himself, he pretty much restricts it. Unless you want to give extra at the end of the night.
