Photographer High Res CD?

How long does it take to get a high res cd from your photographer? Patkin told me 6 months. Is that normal?

6 Months? 3 Weeks? My photographer is giving me a HI-RES DVD at the end of my party to take home with me! Also, I can print whatever I want from that DVD.He did my cousin's wedding & did the same thing for her. Why do you have to wait so long?

I think mine gives them in like a week... maybe even faster... he doesnt do any touching up of pics... what you see is what you get... so that may be why it takes longer for you to get yours?

6 months seems ridiculous. Butk, I bet they are doing it so you have to order everything from them (ie. thank you)...and not do them on your own.

mine says 5 years!

I met with Patken as well.

According to the sales person, all the pictures on that high res DC are edited or touched up. Maybe that's why it takes a long time?

I'm pretty sure this is why they do hold on to them for that length of time. and it's part of the reason we didn't use them.

Re: Photographer High Res CD?

In my opinion, having worked as a photographer, a reasonable amount of time is anywhere between two to eight weeks. Anything else is ridiculous because your photographer is not going to be retouching for that long, it's just insane.

For the person who said a week or less because they aren't having photos retouched, that makes complete sense because high res or not, they're going to need to convert the files into .jpegs so that you can open them because most likely your photographers are shooting in .raw and to convert that many photos takes forever. But you just set your computer up, select the photos to convert and let it sit for a few hours.

For the person who said they're getting a dvd at the end of the night, that would REALLY scare me because clearly they aren't doing any retouching, which some people are just fine with. But again, are they shooting in low resolution jpegs or what because there's just no way for them to burn out a high resolution dvd with ALL your wedding pics on it in that amount of time, plus aren't they going to take pics the whole night? I'm not knocking your photographer at all, I would just definitely ask a lot of questions about how exactly they are doing all that because something isn't lining up for it to be high resolution. Keep in mind though, that most people don't always know the difference between printing off a high and low resolution for regular album size, we aren't talking about billboards.

I don't claim to be an expert but if anyone has any specific questions about things like this please feel free to FM me. I spent nearly four years shooting wedding photography (photojournalistic and traditional) mainly as a second shooter in Orange County, California. I don't do weddings anymore but things like this haven't changed in the last six months :)

That's another reason why I did not book with Patken. Instead, I booked with 12th night.

6 months...ridiculous. Sounds like they procrastinate so you end up buying more from them sooner. Many photogs can get them to you in less than 3 weeks. Really depends on any edits or special effects, etc. but raw footage, even less time.

WOW!!! that seems like a long time!

We got one of our e-photos, about 80 pics, edited, and over a holiday and I got them back in just shy of a week!!! I think 6months and defiantly the 5 years is ridiculous!

With Patken you dont own the rights to your pics for 6 months. So you probably get the CD (which you can make copies from and distribute pictures from) after that time frame. This way they can assure you dont duplicate or redistribute the photos.
