Photographer payments

I am curious to know what everyone's payment schedule is with their photographer. I thought mine was 1/3 before the wedding, 1/3 at the wedding, and 1/3 when we picked up our pictures. But I just got an e-mail saying that 1/2 is due now, and 1/2 is due right before the wedding. Meaning they will have all of my money before the wedding. I can't remember if they're changing the policy because I went to so many appointments in one weekend, my head was spinning.

Does anyone think it's weird to pay the photographer in full before the wedding or is that normal?

Photographer payments

We paid a 1/3 a signing, a 1/3 is due half way from signing and our wedding, the remainder less ($1000) is due before the wedding.
$500 is due to get photos
$500 is due to get DVD
We booked same photo and video company.

It is normal that they all want money before hand. I think too many people in the past never paid so they are looking out for their best interest. I would double check your contract, most wanted all but a small amount.

Yeah, I can see both sides of it. A family member of mine used the same people and I just got off the phone with them. It seems to be his way of doing things but they didn't have any problems. Feeling a bit more at ease. Thanks!

Photographer payments

Our photographers will be paid in full before the wedding.

Seems pretty normal. As long as you are with someone reputable I wouldn't worry.

Photographer payments

It's very normal for vendors to request payment in full before doing your wedding. It's to protect them and make sure no one skips out on the bill!

Ask them if you can make monthly payments. I'm doing that with all my vendors, except venue. We are paying them in full at time of contract.

Photographer payments

Our photographer divided it into 6 pretty equal payments: the 1st when we booked, the 2nd a month before the wedding, the 3rd one month after the wedding, the fourth when we have our album mtg, the fifth when we approve our album design, and the 6th when we pick up the albums (the last payment is very small). this was not a special payment plan- this is just the way she does it. my 2nd choice photographer did something similar. my 3rd choice photographer wanted everything before the wedding- which was one of the reasons i didn't book them. i would definitely talk with them. i can;t see why the wouldn't let you wait to make a payment until you pick up your proofs.

Photographer payments

I paid 1/3 before, 1/3 by the day of wedding and 1/3 at pickup of proofs. It really depends on what your contract says though.

While most vendors need to be paid prior to the wedding the photographer is the one vendor that it seems like most have a chunk due after because alot of their work is done after the wedding (albums, proof. Etc)

I paid third when booking, another third this month and the last when we pick up albums.

Photographer payments

We left a $250 deposit then paid the rest in full 2 weeks before. Every photographer is different. Check your contract.

Photographer payments

I would check the contract too. Besides the deposit, my photographer wants half paid by July and the other half week of the wedding as I'm paying in cash and she doesn't want to carry a lot of $$ on her day of. My video wanted 500 deposit, half paid day of wedding and other half when video is ready.

It really depends on the photographer. We paid 1/2 during booking and the other 1/2 during the wedding.
