Just wondering... I am paying $3950 for my photographer. I put $1000 down when I booked, I owe another $1600 the week before the wedding and $350 after the wedding. It seems like too much money is due before the wedding, before he has actually done any work. I thought more of the balance was due when the proofs came in or when the photos were ordered/picked up. Thanks!

Re: Photographer Question...
My photographer required payment in FULL two weeks before the wedding....I thought it was strange, but hey I trusted her to do a good job and she did. I don't think your photographer is unreasonable.

Re: Photographer Question...
I think that is totally normal. We paid off the balance except for a tiny percentage that was due when the proofs were picked up.
Aren't you paying all of your vendors either on your wedding day or before? I think we paid everyone via certified check before the actual wedding. Why shouldn't they get paid for a job they are going to do?

Re: Photographer Question...
Mine was much the same way. We put the minimum deposit, had to have all but $450 paid 60 days before the wedding and the balance was due when we picked up the proofs.

Re: Photographer Question...
Thanks! I just felt a little uncomfortable. Like, my florist need the money before (I understand because she has to order the flowers), but the final third is due at the wedding (when I see the finished product). I guess my thought is if he has all of my money... does he really need to show up? Especially with photography because the majority of his costs will occur after the wedding. (I wouldn't mind giving him money on the wedding, but before seemed strange to me).

Can I just say that running around paying people is the LAST thing that you want to do on your wedding day.
Remember, these people are professionals and they know what they are doing and maybe they are trying to make it easier for their bride.

Re: Photographer Question...
I think it's pretty standard that the bulk of the payment is due before the wedding, my photographer said that I could pay them on the day, but I didn't want to have that in addition to all the tips on the day of so I dropped the payment off the day before the wedding. I planned on going earlier in the week, but last minute things kept popping up.

Re: Photographer Question...
This is quite standard.
I paid my photographer in full prior to the wedding. While a bit uncomfortable at the beginning, I realized it is common.
We also paid our RH in full 9 days before our wedding.

Re: Photographer Question...
Yup. We had to be paid in full prior to the wedding as well.

Re: Photographer Question...
We are paying everyone before hand as well. I don't want to deal with more money envelopes than I absolutely have to.

Re: Photographer Question...
My photographer required 90% of the total to be paid 2 weeks before the wedding. The other 10% is due once the proofs are picked up. You have to understand, they are doing a BIG job for you...running around all day, taking pictures and recording the day. If someone at the end decides that they dont like the proofs and the video and refuse to pay them the balance - they lose out BIG TIME.
