Photographer Question

Photographer Question

I met with my first photographer last week and i loved her. I loved her personality and i could see it being so easy to work with her. my problem is that she never shot at my venue. This is a huge factor, right? Also has anyone just purchased the file/disc of their wedding from the photographer and not opted to buy the actual photo albums and pictures?

Personally I think that they need to make the album. While there are numerous amounts of websites out there that you can prolly do it cheaper, keep in mind you will have to sort through hundreds, possibly a thoasand pictures. I think that it better left to those who have a trained eye.

Have you looked at photog's who your venue recommends? I would prolly sleep easier knowing that the photog has previously shot there but I'm not sure if it is the end of the world. I would def want them to visit it so they can get some ideas of the types of shots they want. If not, that could cost you some cocktail hour time.

I know it might be safe to book with a photographer who has done a wedding at your venue but the pictures will probably be similar to the previous weddings. I say if you really like this photographer you should go for it!! Our photographer we booked with never done a wedding at our venue either...we fell in love with his artistic and edgy approach in his photos along with his personality. We are confident he will do amazing work. Good luck!

This is what I was going to say. A good photographer will be able to shoot ANYWHERE. And besides, they might bring a fresh new eye to your venue! I'd say if you like her, go for it.

This times ten. I am not ordering any albums from my photographer, except for my own, FH and I both have divorced families, so we would need 4 parent albums! Aka like ridiculous amounts of money, we are going to just make custom albums online through other websites for a lot cheaper.

i think - if you're comfortable with her, dont let this be a factor!
perhaps you can take her there on an off day to show her the site and give her an idea of what you want taken where.
or perhaps, if an engagement shoot comes with your package - do it at your reception site!

my photographer Alternate Angles Photography is based out of newport and willing to travel to ny. i brought her to my reception hall and church to give her ideas. cannot wait for her to shoot our special day!

I'd rather our photographer have never shot @ our place.
and also... regardless... with the renovations it would be like shooting at a new venue anyway!!

I'm not getting my albums done by the photographer.

Re: Photographer Question

I would check out a few other photographers. You never know you may like someone else even more? I don't think its a big deal if she never shot at your venue. I would ask her to look at your venue before your wedding date so she has some ideas and maybe if you go with her she and you can go over different shoots. I think buying albums from your photographer is best. However, if it comes to money get the disc and maybe after the wedding if you love her work you can purchase pictures and albums. A lot of girls go online and purchase pictures/albums or do make them on their own. HTH

Re: Photographer Question

I have 3 more appointments with other photographers and 2 of them are the suggested vendors for the venue. Thank you all for ur input. This really helps. She does have a wedding at my venue in July but I wanted to book before the summer so it's one less vendor I worry about.

Thats good. Check them out and they make your decision. Usually house vendors give better rate. Good luck!

If you connected with the photographer and liked her work, then I don't think it is a deal breaker if she hasn't previously shot your venue. I'm sure she will do her research on the venue.
Regarding albums I think it is a good idea to have the photographer create it. They provide a ton of assistance regarding the album process.

I don't think it will be an issue. Like the others said if you connected with her then go for it. As for the albums, I'm not getting the album from my photog but I know she does offer to do them through her if you want so after the wedding if I change my mind I know I can talk to her about purchasing an album then. I've seen numerous girls on here get their albums done on their own and they came out so much nicer anyway because you get to take your time and really do it yourself.

Hey!!

Ask the photographer if they mind taking a look at the venue beforehand. I know one of the vendors I met with never shot at my venue but was willing to do scope out the place. It doesnt hurt to ask. As far as the album goes, you can totally do it yourself!! We opted to get the album but we are doing our own parent albums. HTH!!

This exactly! Also, I am not doing albums or photos through the photogapher. As much as we would love to save our own time, it's just not within our budget. Just make sure that you get the rights to your photos in your contract because a lot of photographers don't give you rights which means you can't print them anywhere else or make albums. It may be a little extra money, but will definitely save you money in the end between the costs of albums and printed photos. Good Luck!

I wouldn't be too worried about her not having been to your venue for a shooting. As far as the albums I just think that should be left to a professional. It going to be the most important album you own.
