Photographer Question
I was just wondering if you have to pay your photographer in full before the wedding or if you have to pay in full once you get your proofs? In talking to people they said make sure you dont pay in full till you see the proofs. I went with a reputable photographer so Im not worried that hes going to take my money and run but if we could pay less before the wedding it would be good lol

Re: Photographer Question
All photographers require majority or full payment. I think many have gotten stuck in the past. We are paying all except for $500 which will be due upon pickup of our DVD.

Photographer Question
That's not true about all photographers requiring full payment. I'm paying 2/3 prior and the final 1/3 at album pick up.

Our photographer told us to NEVER pay 100% in full for photo/video until you have finished product in your hands. We will be paying most of it prior, then the balance at pick-up.
This!

Photographer Question
I would pay the LEAST they require and keep the rest in a an envelope somewhere hidden in your home to pay when you see proofs. you really shouldn't pay for something you haven't received yet! just in case :)

Photographer Question
Hmmm this is making me nervous. I am using Lighthouse who is obviously a reputable vendor but they are requiring me to to pay in full prior to the wedding day. Any other Lighthouse brides think this is odd considering these other posts?

Photographer Question
I'm a Lighthouse bride, and I met with about 15 photographers before deciding on them. I was told by other reputable photogs that they required full payment by the day of the wedding, because they had gotten stuck. I remember one right off the top of my head, but I'd have to look up which other ones said that.I wouldn't be worried, Florio's been in the business for like 20 years, and he wouldn't still be doing this with such rave reviews if he was screwing people. In fact, I was trying to find a bad review on him and his work, and it's virtually impossible.
My opinion is also that not only are you conducting business with this person, but you're also building trust with them. If you didn't feel like you could trust him to photograph your wedding in the first place, you wouldn't have chosen him.
Hope this helped!!

Re: Photographer Question
hmm i didn't think about this either.. my photographer doesn't require us to commit to albums or anything like that up front so my contract is only for the photographer and the proofs, then i am picking out what photos to develop and what albums to purchase after we receive the proofs.. do you think it's still OK to not pay in full in this case? Should we be waiting until we see the proofs to pay in full?

Photographer Question
I double checked my contract. For photo, we pay most of the balance a month before the wedding. We pay $350 when we pick up the proofs, and the final $100 when we pick up the albums. For video (same company) we pay most of the balance a month before and the remaining $250 when we pick up the footage.
This makes sense to me - as much as I'm sure companies have gotten stiffed before, it's just as possible for a bride & groom to not get their final product. What good is shooting the wedding day if you don't get your photos?

Photographer Question
I honestly never thought about it till a few people were talking about their weddings and I looked back on my contract and it says paid in full day of event. I wonder if I should say something or just leave it alone? I honestly dont think my photographer would leave us high and dry as he has a very good reputation and has been in the business for a long time. My DVD company has also been in business for a long time and there business/home is around the corner from me.

Re: Photographer Question
Our friends recently had a really big issue with their videographer - they had already paid in full and the guy's computer crashed and they were not able to recover all of their footage. Their video was missing a lot of important parts of the night (almost all of the ceremony, best man speech, half of their first dance, other special dances, the cake cutting was mostly missing, it was bad.) and there was nothing they could do about it. They were very upset, I mean they had a viedo in the end but it was not good enough for a wedding video. No where near good enough. I see why it might be a good idea to not pay in full until you get the final product even if you have a good referral or a reputable company. With that being said I think my contract says that I am to pay in full on the day of LOL but now i'm not sure I remember that clearly, I have to go back and check.. I don't know what happens if we just say to them that we don't feel comfortable paying in full until we receive the proofs?

Photographer Question
My photographer gets the balance on the day of the wedding. Many of our friends used her, and loved her. As long as there is a contract and things are in writing, I wouldn't really worry...We are using www.ericalynphotography.com
