Photographer ?'s

I'm meeting with a photographer this weekend and I have some ?'s

Some of the places said there was no need for 2 photographers which is what I originally wanted. What do you think?

For the album, are traditional or magazine style more popular. I think I like magazine but a few of the places I spoke to said traditional is the way to go. But I feel like almost everyone has been doing magazine style.

How much should I look to pay for a package, all the bells and whistles. I need a videographer also.

As to 2 photogs some of the philosophy is that if you have a large number of guests, having 2 will help to get different shots of diff people and if you have a small wedding 1 should be able to handle it.

I have seen a lot of threads here where girls say it's what you want and size of wedding doesn't matter. Part of that is because w 2 photogs you usually get 1 who is traditional wedding photog - - who may also do photojournalistic style but still captures all the traditional shots. and the 2nd does the artsy ones. also a 2nd cvan be in a diff place getting completely diff shots or just diff angles on the same poses.

I had a 2nd for 4 hrs for getting ready, ceremony and CH. With that I got a combo of diff people, diff angles and little diff stle. and I had small wedding but chose 1.5 photog

and part of the decision is cost. I think ave for 2nd is about $1000 for the day.

Now as for Patken, we weren't thrilled with them because they said they would choose the photog you get not you getting the one you like. maybe you could argue that but we also didn't like that they held the proof dvd 6 mos, maybe a year before you got it for your own use.

The place we finally selected (SilverFox) gave us the prints and dvd about 5 weeks after the wedding. print away, do what you want - - we made 4x6 prints at CVS and DYI cards as thank you's that way.

So if dvd of proofs is important to you be sure you ask how the photog company handles that. One we checked would not release them at all and some only did if you spent enuf $$ on an album.

as to the person you checked besides Patken, did you look at albums of his work and like his style?.

that's an important item. and check BBB for any issues. You might also ask him for references and see his reaction.

Prices we got for 1 photog and album of maybe 40 pics was betw $2500 and $4000. those were Nov of 2006.

again we were happy with our place and thought they were the most flexible and reasonable. $1500 for photog and dvd proofs (and prints - - now they charge for printed proofs).
album is 80 images for $1100. again these are 2006 prices not sure whaT album prices are today.

prices I've included are not bells & whistles prices but got the job done.

As to style, again I think that's what you like best. we are getting magazize stle since it gives more design options.

My photographer suggested having 2 photographers if you have more than 250 people...but if you want two regardless of the size of your guestlist, then you should go for it.

FH and I looked at both the traditional and the magazine style albums and we didn't like the magazine style ones...they felt like yearbooks to us. BUT that was our own personal preference. You should chose what YOU like, not what's most popular.

I agree with the other posters if you have more than 250 2 photographers would work. BUT I also think its another person getting in the way lol. Think about it...a photo, assitant, videographer AND another photographer..seems like too many people to be around JMO

As far as prices the best way to go about it is to look at a few photographers, the packages you want and compare prices....again JMO

Also...I like the magazine style too and traditional. Since magazine is digital they can make some pages look traditional..ask to see albums like this!

Good Luck...once you talk to a cple photographers it becomes more clear I was confused too lol

We are only having between 75-100 guests and still decided to get 2 photographers. I wanted traditional and photojournalistic.

We had 2 photographers, 2 is definitely not necessary. We had 2 b/c we wanted to get shots from a different point of view, also I wanted 2 b/c then one was with DH and one was with me if we seperated during the night.

As far as the album it is personal preference, yes everyone is doing magazine these days b/c it includes photo editing, color effects and you can blend images and add image effects too-BUT the only downfall to the magazine is over time the pictures may fade and the edges of the pages may start to bend.

We chose traditional b/c that is just what we preferred-nothing to do with anything else. You decide what album YOU want for you not b/c its what everyone is doing. is there one you prefer over the other-then go with that style.

The package depends on what you want.
How many enlargements do you want?
What sizes?
Pics on a hi-res CD?
How many pics in the album do you want?

most photographers will give you their package information and you can decide what you want to spend and what is wasteful.

We spent about 8k total on photography and video-but we used 2 seperate companies for each.

Re: Photographer ?'s

Thanks girls. I’m meeting with someone this weekend so I can get a better idea. I haven't actually looked at any in person just online. I really do want 2. I feel like I don't want anything to be missed even though the wedding will only be around 150 people. Pictures are really important to me you only get one shot. My sister in law to be really wasn’t happy with her photographer. He didn't even take any pictures of the groom alone or with his parents. After arguing with the guy they were able to take some the next weekend so him and his parents got dressed up again and went back. I really want to avoid that as much as possible.

We have the same amt of guest like you (150 ppl) and we are using 2 photographers. I want one with me and one with him to get pics when he's with his GM and BM and his parents at his house.
