I will do a search on photopgraphers and already have some names but I was wondering if anyone could suggest some photographers that they thought were really good. I'm looking to spend about $5000 on photos and video. Although video is not that important to me.

What do you think about my price range of $5000 for Jo Von? I stopped by without an appointment and they gave me some really crazy price. Granted I didn't have a date or place yet just a month so maybe they just made up a high number.

I know my brother in-law used them and got everything for around $5000.

I think you should look into Michael O'Neill. He is in your price range for the combined set of photos and video. I'm not exactly sure of the breakdown on each, but if I remember correctly the video was between $1000-$1500. His photos are outstanding. He was the first and only one we looked at, and their video was just what we were looking for with a great price.

Thanks Rachel and Kel. $8000 as a starting point was out of my price range. I will check out both.

Try Wedding Group One. The have locations in Soho and Flushing. I hired them for both photo and video within your budget.

You might want to consider asking who will do the actual developing of the film shot at your wedding. You want to make sure the integrity of the photo is kept through the developing process.

Also, some places will do an engagement photo for you as part of the package. I think this is a great idea. It gives everyone the opportunity to get to know each other, plus you get a formal shot and will have a better idea of the whole situation before the big day!

We're using Mark Kauffman. He can probably work with any budget you give him. His work looks beautiful and he specializes in photojournalism if you are looking for something different.
