Photographers: Where should I go?

Original post by LaurenluvsTJ

I am so overwhelmed with the choice of photographers. I have no idea who to go see. I have read lots of great stuff on here about Duet and like the proofs that everyone posts, so I will go see them.. But who else? Help!

Re: Photographers: Where should I go?

We saw B rett M atthews, Silverfox, Duet and 12th Night.

I would rank them:

1) B rett M atthews (we took them; UPDATED: We would NOT recommend them)
2) Silverfox (but a VERY close second - had a hard time deciding)
3) Duet (good for the price)
4) 12th Night (we were not fans)

UPDATED: We used BM and would NOT recommend them.

FM for details.

We are using Rick & Co. Photographers-my cousin used them and their album is like nothing I've ever seen before-his prices were also great.

I agree with the comment to not just go off of the companys that are talked about a lot-i met with a few of them and was not nearly as impressed as I was with some of the other companies that are never really mentioned on here.

Good Luck!

I'm using ADA Studios. I've seen their work and have been very pleased. I had an hour phone conversation with them last night and they were super helpful (I'm stressing out over my timeline) and they reassured me everything would work out. and we'd have plenty of time to do everything. :) I'm happy with my choice.

Good luck to you!

You also want to ask who, exactly, will be photographing your wedding. A lot of studio places have a pool of photographers and often the books that they show you are not broken out by individual photographers. You may book a studio based on a couple of albums, but that photographer may not be yours.

Also, decide that type of photography you want. If you want photojournalism, it makes sense to go to someone that specializes in that.

Another thing to consider is if your package includes an album. Some do, some don't.

Ask to see ALL the pictures from a few weddings, not just the finished album with 30-50 pictures in them. That will give you a much better sense of the overall feel of a person's work.

We ended up selecting Something in Blue. We're go excited to be working with them as we really love their work. They're based in Brooklyn but have worked at almost all the wedding locations in LI. Happy planning!

Re: Photographers: Where should I go?

I just booked Duet last night. I would suggest going to see as many photographers as you can. I saw 6 mostly in the Westchester/CT area. My FH went to see Duet in NYC since he works only a few blocks away. He was blown away by their photos, albums and video. We went together last night and booked them.
