Hi Ladies, I'm having a pretty hard time finding a photographer. I want someone with an artistic/photojournalistic style who also will provide rights to pictures and will include a leather bound album with gilded edged pages for us and one for each set of parents. My FILs and FH both insist on formal albums. The smaller, more artistic photographers we've met with don't offer that. I also don't want to go with a super old school photographer who takes just straight on photos. I want something beautiful! Budget isn't a huge issue. Help please! I'd love some suggestions!
I've been to a million weddings myself, but everyone I talk to says 'I didn't love my photographer.' Where are the photographers people LOVED?
Love Lighthouse Photography and I believe they are exactly what you are looking for. We loved our engagement pictures and are so looking forward to Our Wedding pics = )

I second lighthouse!!! Their albums are so customizable. When you meet with them, Monica will sit down and go through all the different styles and really get a feel for what you and FH are looking for. They were the most customizable that we met with. Capture the moment did some more traditional albums as well and had better pricing but we just didn't click with her like we did Florio at lighthouse.

Thanks for all the suggestions. They all seem to fit what I'm looking for! I contacted all three this morning and am trying to set up an appointment with Lighthouse. I just wish Lighthouse wasn't so far away! We are located in the city and my fiance's parents are on the south shore, so it's a bit of a hike!

My friends used Proline. Their first engagement photos were unusable. They had to ask for a second shoot. They did like their second shoot though. At their wedding they used a flash that flashed in all the guests faces during the ceremony and the reception. Usually photographers aim the flashes at the ceiling but it was SO uncomfortable. We have tons of iphone pics of our friends holding napkins over our faces b/c we were trying to block out the flashes in our eyes. I would NEVER use them. They do like their pictures that they received, but too many issues with Proline to use them!
We are using Fade to Black and they have been my favorite vendor to work with. I love their work and will recommend them to ANYBODY!

wow i'm really surprised to hear that. I love Proline and many family members have used them. You do need to know to request the right photographers though. Maybe they just had a bad one... I loved my engagement pictures too. Again, we also knew who to ask for so i guess that can make or break your experience
I had a few friends who used other reputable companies, and some loved theirs and others hated theirs. I really think it's not company at fault, but the photographer they picked and their cameras of choice.
My FMIL was a photog for many many years and I think it's also important to point out that many of the companies that are so popular right now don't even use expensive photog equipment and they are all self-trained people who really don't know the correct angles to shoot at or anything. So I would just beware of those editorial type photographers.

We booked with Proline, very easy and a pleasure to work with. We had a newer photographer for our engagement shoot but she worked with other companies before Proline and we love how our pictures came out. Can't wait for the wedding day. I was told that there is one photographer that really does alot of their weddings at Westbury Manor and he is nicknamed the lens man and he has a case with all different lenses for all types of pictures. I believe we will be getting him the day of our wedding. I have to double check on that.

Re: Photographers You LOVED-- Help!
Photography to me is the hardest vendor. First, it SO subjective! It really depends on your taste and if a photographer fits into your style. Plus then you have the option of do you go with a more established company, or someone who is a single proprietor. We met this couple we LOVED that I heard of through a friend named Cottonwood Studios. Their stuff is gorgeous and they were the sweetest people, but they only did eco-friendly albums. My FH and FILs were not going to go for hemp covered albums with soy based prints. Even their more 'standard' albums weren't up to the level they were looking for. (My parents and I are much less picky and don't have as many expectations.) So now I'm thinking that I just need to find a more professional studio who have the options and style I'm looking for. You guys have all done a great job helping me out.
Yes, my one friends had an issue with Proline-- and I'm sure they were the exception to the rule. I just don't want to go with them after seeing that. Plus I'm looking for a more dynamic /different style. It's strange how many people I talk to who say 'I wasn't happy with my photographer'. It's crazy! If you're happy with who you picked, that's awesome. I really appreciate the advice!

To be honest, they are totally worth the hike! DH & I live on the western Nassau/Queens border and booked them. I can't say enough good things about Lighthouse. They really were my favorite vendor.
