Re: Photographer/Videographer
Duet is very reasonable--with packages for both photo/video under $5K.
Also Golden Moments Dan Saviano is great--beautiful work and nice guys. They can also give you photo/video for less than $5K.

we're going with angelica studios.... while the album packages are around 5k, if you make your own album, and just get the pics, you will save over 1k....

One way to cut down on costs for the photos is to just get proofs and make sure you own the digital files/negatives and make your own albums/prints later. Many of the albums/prints are pretty expensive for most of these folks.
We have similar budgetary issues, and are somehow getting both photo and video for 3K. Rambling Rose is darn reasonable for video. You can also check out craigslist for possible photographers. FM me if you want more info...

Same here... Love Duet. We're not using them for video b/c a family friend who's in the business is, but they are so reasonable with both packages.

Re: Photographer/Videographer
Also check out Twelfth Night. They price the day separate from the albums. You can get one or two photographers and something like 5, 8 and 12 hours per photographer. For example, I will probably be using them and getting two photographers, one for 5 hours (photojournalistic) and one for 8 hours (traditional). And I think the price was around $2,200. Then you pay for the album after your wedding. And you get a DVD slideshow of your proofs. They are awesome and really nice!

I second Golden Moments Dan Saviano. They are great guys, and do great work. They have lower costing packages and are willing to work with your budget.
Just tell you photo guys what you want, you don't need to follow their packages.

We used Blue SKy Video. He's not a vendor on here but we were very happy with him. We met him at a bridal expo and a friend of mine (who is EXTREMELY picky and only wants the best but doesn't want to pay for it ) booked with him and was very happy with him also. He's worth checking out. Blue Sky Video

Re: Photographer/Videographer
We're going with a lesser known photographer that includes all of the high res photographs in his price and charges separately for the albums. FH is good with photoshop and all of that stuff, so we're going to make the albums ourselves.
The person we're using is Yun Gen Yang. He's $1800 for up to 10 hours of coverage, and the engagement session is FREE! He's only been in the wedding photography business for 3.5 years, but he has been in photography for much longer. His website is http://www.yangphoto.com in case you're interested. He's a really great guy, is one of the house photographers for the Hilton in Melville. You can also add a second photographer to his package for $600 (for the whole day).
In terms of video, we may decide to take a 6 hr package instead of 8 hr or 10hr to cut costs a little bit. My cousin also had my dad tape his wedding instead of hiring a videographer. My dad used really basic editing software on his computer to make a nice simple video of the day that my cousin could distribute. You can buy the DVD boxes (about $1 each) and create covers in photoshop to make them look more professional.

We used Patken Photography, got video and photography for $5000. For all the extras we got, I felt it was worth it.
